Hi,
Can anybody help answer this question - I have some land I want to set so people have to buy passes to enter it. However I want two groups to have unlimited access - my own group and a generic group for residents on my continenet.
I can only see one group in the restrict options, or a list of names for permitted residents - There are far too many people in the big group which changes all the time so I would like to add that to the "allowed residents"
Thanks in advance
Amy

You can only add one group, however, you can in addition add individuals. Maybe you could add the biggest group as group and members in the other groups as individuals? Or ask that everyone that is member of the smaller groups also join the big one?

That's what I was worried about...
I wonder if there is a little known workaround
LLAddGroupToAccessList script...
Ok that would just be too easy. The main problem is the big group isn't my group so on the plot I would like to have auto-return on for 30 mins, but if I give the big group access then any stuff created will stay there if i set the land to that group.

Yeah, I see your problem. Would this location always be open? Or just for events? If its only for events that you want to sell these passes, you can always add the big group for a specific event, and then return stuff after? I dont know ...

Well to put it into context - I have a nice secluded sim out on the eastern fringes of the otherland archipelago. It's kind of an old volcano with a pretty bay in the centre. My intention is to turn this into a nudist colony where people can come and hang out without it turning into a free-for-all **** fest. The only reason why I want to charge a very small entry fee is to basically keep the ruffians out - for some exclusivity
However in Otherland we have a no ban lines policy across the whole continent so I need to allow the otherland residents free access to the site, but charge others

This is a good candidate for a JIRA new feature request. At present it is not possible to use multiple groups to affect parcel access controls. There are cases where it certainly would prove useful. Bear in mind than NONE of the parcel access controls, with the exception of explicitly banned-by-name individuals, will have any effect at all at heights more than 50 M above the terrain. Group access, age restrictions... they all only work to 50M above the terrain and lower. So anyone who wants to can fly 51 M above your venue, hover there, and cam down to watch for free. They can't mingle on the ground or sit on pose balls in the restricted area, but they can hover there and enjoy whatever enertainment is offered. And if your actual activities are in the sky, only a security orb can eject the non-approved interlopers.

From: Amy Stork However in Otherland we have a no ban lines policy across the whole continent so I need to allow the otherland residents free access to the site, but charge others Just making sure: it's okay, then, to have the Buy Pass screen up for non-Otherland residents? I can think of an ugly way to semi-automate this. Whichever group to which the land is set would be allowed in the Access tab, and then individuals wearing the other group tag when they appear nearby could be automatically added to the explicit access list by a script in an object set to the other group. Uglinesses include: The avatar-sensing object being set to a different group than the land would mean that either auto-return would have to be disabled on the parcel, or the sensing script would have to be on a different parcel and communicate with the access-controlling script on the main parcel. (That "different parcel" DMZ is probably useful anyway, to ensure there's a place to land while the visitor is being sensed and added to the access list.) Visitors would have to remember to wear their group tag the first time, to get on the access list. Ejecting group members wouldn't deny them access automatically, if they'd ever visited before. Probably other stuff, too.

I have no idea how to do what you want...but I *do* happen to know another successful nudist colony. You could IM the group owner and see how they handle it. Look up "The Wild Coast Naturist Resort."

Thanks Qie - that's a great idea - although way beyond my abilities...
Actually the central area of the sim will be Buy Pass but the outer edge will be free for anybody to come and go as they please so that approach could in theory work. Just need to find somebody who knows how!
Meanwhile, I agree with Ceera that this could be a feature request - I can't surely be the only one who want's to add groups to the access list? In fact it would be far more flexible because you would only need to maintain the groups rather than the ACL's
With respect to ppl dropping cameras in I'm not really that bothered - if spying on a bunch of peaceful nature lovers gives them a kick it's really their problem not mine. And if anybody is disruptive there is always the ban button. The people who live in otherland are a good bunch, sadly however this project may be a bit of a griefing magnet so I will have to have some precautions in place I guess.

I know that in my own sim, I would greatly prefer to be able to have one group for my personal household - the people entitled to actually have their homes on my land - and a second group for guests of my household members. That way, when we have something going on that is an activity only for my household, like a roleplaying scenario where everyone is trying to remain 100% in-character, I could remove access for the 'guest' group temporarily, without having to boot all of them from the land group and re-invite them later. Right now, I just have to make do with "Resident" and "Visitor" roles in my land group, and if I want to restrict access to something further, I have to set up a security orb, and only allow the people that are explicitly invited to enter the protected area. It would also be nice if the 4 households that share my sim could have the ability to add the other three resident land groups to their parcel access, without opening themselves to every random guest that one of the other 3 households might invite to visit their own lands. Each household could have a guest list, which the other households could accept or ban as needed at that moment. It's a non-public sim, and access is restricted for now to the 4 household land groups. That means that to have a guest over, someone must add the guest to one of those household groups. Having a shared "Visitors list" for sim access would be far better.

FWIW, I just posted ( /54/14/235993/1.html) a pair of scripts that seem to do what I was mumbling about above. But the Scripting Tips folks may have much better ideas, so we'll see what develops with that thread.
