I think these 2 things 2gether will stabalize SL alot, but i am worried that they have abandoned Windlight as i havnt heard a blog about it since the summer

acording to the last blog it has optimized the rendering code and has some low-graphics options such as avatar imposters etc. Alot of the real root causes for lag (its actualy not called lag in technical terms but everyone knows it as that) is that there are 2 many prims on screen and the rendering code is not very good at the moment, i heard that Windlight will optimize this alot solving alot of freeze-lagging there have been times when i have hit my keyboard thru fustration, lol

Does anyone know when and if Windlight comes out

And as for Havok4, the physics are alot smoother and more realistic except for the fact that when you create a cube close to the floor it kind of sinks and then fires itself into the air, as funny and amusing as this is 2 watch it can get really annoying if trying to build something.

For all who don't know Havok4 is not an "extra feature" to bog down SL like some of u have been saying, some people are moaning that the grid is unstable and should be made more stable before adding extra things, well Havok4 is just that it will make the grid run alot smoother and faster.

They really do need to fix it up a bit before rolling it out on2 the main grid tho. theres not much 2 fix that i have found except for objects that randomly shoot off away from what ever their colliding with.

For windlight updates see Torley Linden's project page on the second life wiki:

https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Torley_Linden/Project_updates

They are still working on bugs and to make windlight compatible with all computer configurations. One exciting new feature is "Avatar Impostors". Which means that avatars that are far away are rendered as 2D 'sprites'. This will improve frame rates significantly on crowded sims.

I am looking forward to the next first look client of windlight!
