I logged on the other day and in my chat were two messages from Second Life. I earned $1000L and $500L for recommending *avatar*.
I don't remember "recommending" anybody to anybody for anything. What is this? And my account balance does reflect this income.

This happens if someone puts your name in as recommending them when they sign up AND sign up for a premium account.
It's basically LL paying you for making them money. You can not see who listed you as a referrer. |

Did you send any postcards to someone who was not a secondlife member? Sounds to me like you might have, and they joined as a premium member and stayed for the required amount of time for you to receive the bonus.
