Does this form of griefing exist?

I've had some very bizarre stuff happening to me in SL today. Specifically, the textures for my avatar keep changing to other various things. Asking others around me to press Ctrl-Alt-R, and doing so myself, seems to fix it. Specifically, I've seen myself change to have green skin and appear to be covered in mud rather than clothing... and then later my face has started appearing with blood dripping from the eye sockets and mouth. Like I said, in all cases, rebaking textures and asking others to do the same has solved the problem.

Anyone heard of this? If this is a form of griefing (and I can't imagine what else it is), is there anything I can do to stop it?

Are you sure your avatar isn't on some heavy LSD?

Yes, pretty sure. My avatar is 10 years old.

well my avvy has taken on the pattern of the local background before, I simply put it down to a graphics problem - could that be the mud etc you mention.... as for the blood that sounds like some sort of griefing tool. Have you checked for attachments when that's happened ?

Over the past month or two, may avatar sometimes picks up the background textures and even my HUD textures - rebake always fixes it. I just wrote it off as a typical SL glitch.

So the final resolution: appears the two incidents had different causes. The first was probably a graphical glitch of the type described by several of you. The second was because I'd change the mesh detail on my avatar to something lower, so when I zoomed in fast, parts of the bits on the inside of the face showed through in a weird way. In the second case, it was just coincidence that it fixed itself at the same time I hit Ctrl-Alt-R. So, all explained, and in a much less weird way than I imagined.

Also, I have seen this problem with a video card that is overheating. Make sure your computer vents are not being blocked, and it might be a good idea to turn it off, open up the case and blow/vacuum out the dust.

After you have done that, turn it on and make sure that any and all fans are moving.
