Just updated last night to:

Second Life 1.21.6 (99587) Oct 14 2008 17:42:25 (Second Life Release)

Now if I zoom in close my myself say dancing with my partner or just close, for a moment I can see my hair pop off like I'm bald but if I zoom in or out a bit more, it's back on in my view. I dont' lose it, it just appears that way.

Is that a setting somewhere I can fix? Thanks for your time and Happy New Year everybody!

It is a documented problem with that release, but I do not remember the JIRA # on it.

ETA: I'm thinking it is fixed in the Release Candidate, if you want to give that release a try - but know that that one is still considered "in test".

newp thats usually what happens when 2 alpha/ transparant textures get in front of each other.

usually cause by the "bald cap" which is an invisiprim to hide the base hair. when it crosses paths with another invisi/transparant texture they can cause things to look goofy.

one example is placing a glass texture right next to my avatar (which happens when I use an elevator in my house) being that close for a second or 2 my hair disappears.

having 2 alphas cross paths can lead to very funky bugs.

Here is the JIRA on it if you want to read the technical info:
Moving the camera aorund, or zooming in on an avatar, some attachments 'disappear' from view.

It's not the alpha texture sorting glitch, it happens on things that have no alpha at all as well.

...And if you're using prim hair that uses an invisiprim to hide the system hair, you need to find a new hair maker, stat. It's not like it's hard to make a bald system hair.

make that 2 agreeing on both counts

it is definitely nothing to do with the hair being prim hair, or the alpha texture glitch, if it were, this would have been happening long before it started happening.

So I take it this bug hasn't been fixed yet? I get the exact same problem as the original poster (hi Heathur, long time no see) -- from the right angle, suddenly people look bald or skirtless.

Sinead O'Connor would beg to differ. :p

Oh, and I'm not altogether "bad" skirtless. ;)
