Group (???)

For the last couple of days anything set to one of my groups displays (???) as the group. Set objects - 'Group-???)'. Land access - 'Group-???)'.

The group in question is the one I use for all my land and is still active/still has more than the minimum number of members. Does anyone know what the problem is? I've not had anything returned (touch wood) but it's making me a little nervous...

Erin, it's been happening to me off and on since the last two or three updates. No clue why, but it has. Don't worry, it doesn't really affect anything and someone wanting to know what group owns what can click the info button and still bring up the correct group.

It comes under the general heading of Lag.
The viewer can't get the information it needs from the server, so it fills in question marks instead. You'll probably also see it, and hippos, in your friends list.

Oh thank you - that's so much more reassuring than the answer I thought I might get ("Actually, your group has fallen off the server so sometime in the next week all your deeded objects will be returned to you and your land will be abandoned".

Yeah, that was my first thought too when I saw the (???). Now, I just wanna give my client a roll of quarters and a map to the clue machine

When this happened to my SIM, a restart took care of that.

When my group owned land did this, I waited a week, then reported it as an issue. Within a few hours my mainland sim got rebooted - hasn't happened since.

This happens intermittently. It does not seem to affect functionality in a negative way, though.

So I learned just to live with it.

Sorry to bump this, but (possibly related?) I currently can't take or delete a bunch of items on my land. I noticed some time ago I 'can't modify' my store - I kinda let that slide since I dont' plan to move it any time soon. But I need rid of these objects - and I can't modify them. Their group, is, of course '???'. Should I report it and hope for a restart? If so, what's the best way to explain the problem so that I can actually get a result? (my bandwidth and packet loss bars are lower than ever so waiting for those to behave won't make a difference)

I've had the ??? for months, and it's never done anything like what you just described. On the other hand, a few people recently have mentioned problems like yours (unrelated to ???), so perhaps it's more a general asset server borkage?

The first thing I'd do is make sure I am wearing the appropriate group title.

Assuming all that's in order, go ahead and request a sim restart. And I mean request a sim restart... that kind of support ticket gets addressed within a few hours usually, or you can even do a live chat and get them out to do it right away. Filing a ticket on ???, though, will put you in the "really long wait" line, if my experience is anything to go on... my ??? ticket hasn't even been looked at after 9 days, even though a later ticket was addressed within 24 hours.

If the sim restart doesn't at least fix your editing problems, then file again about the ???. And add your vote and comments to the JIRA entry if you haven't already.

Well, it's sorted. A Linden came over to take a look - he couldn't see the objects, but couldn't move through them - they were still physically 'there' (and visually for me). So they never ended up in my inventory but some part of the server's teensy leetle brain thought they'd been taken. We figured that if I relogged, I wouldn't be able to see them either. Fun and games.

We got a restart and it's all fixed - and my group stuff belongs to my group now, not ??? which is a lot less scary I lost the offending objects, but luckily they weren't important as I had copies.

The official conclusion - the Riiki server is made of spam and held together with sticky tape and used string. I think the man turning the wheel that powers it may have fallen asleep for a minute there.
