I haven't been able to log in to SL today (had trouble last night too, managed it a couple of times but then couldn't tp anyway and kept being able to not move). SL appears to be connecting but when it gets to 'Waiting for region handshake' it fails and I get a message saying "There may be a problem with your internet connection or Second Life Servers". I submitted a ticket in the Support Portal, and the response was that this means Sl is having trouble connection because of problems at my end. I have not just updated SL nor have I changed any Firewall setting. The advice I was given was " 1. Open the Personal Firewall and navigate to Internet Applications. 2. Click on any listing(s) for Second Life and choose Delete Application Rule on the lower right. 3. Click on New Allowed Application underneath the program list, and navigate to C rogram FilesSecondLifeSecondlife.exe". Well first off I can't even find that exact option (Delet Application Rule) anywhere in my McAfee Security Center (If anyone can give me directions I would be grateful!). I have 'Configure>Internet & Network> Firewall Protection >Advanced nowhere in there does it list any applications. Secondly SL is listed as a trusted program with full access. I would really apprecate some help if anyone knows what might solve the problem. I'm at a loss what to do and getting pretty fed up with it!

Have you turned off McAfee or your firewalll completely and tried to log into SL?
Also, try unplugging your router. That fixes all kinds of ails.

McAfee caused all kinds of SL/WoW issues for me when I had it...I switched to Kaspersky and, not only did the connection issues cease, my framerates improved.

Same. McAfee causes me alsorts of problems. I turn it off while using SL. Just leave my firewall on is all.

It is an automated response that no live person at Linden Lab has reviewed.

Generic note for any users of McAfee or Norton/Symantec Antivirus - if you have Real-Time Scanning enabled, make sure you EXCLUDE your cache folder (you can find out where it is by going to Edit->Preferences->Network) from scanning. If you don't, your SL experience will suck, period. This was discovered waaaaay back when the very first First Look viewer was released with the new caching system (that is now in every supported release client), and hasn't been documented/promoted as well as it should have been.

Or better yet, dump Norton/McAfee and get an antivirus that won't bloat your system to a halt. Kaspersky and NOD32 are both reputed to be good - I personally use NOD32 and would toss my computer into the trash before I would go back to Norton.
