TY. Provided you are entitled to change the media settings on the land in question: 1) Rent a stream from one of the many SL vendors (I use Musecast) 2) Populate Shoutcast fields with the appropriate IP address, port number, password info provided by your stream 3) Go to the media settings in About Land and paste the stream address in the audio field 4) Play something good on Winamp 5) Connect Shoutcast 6) Activate the SL media player _____________________

What is the difference between Shoutcast and Winamp, what are the purposes Winamp is the media player where you store your music files. Shoutcast is a plugin for Winamp which allows you to stream what you have stored. _____________________

Do I have to rent the stream? Does it really need to be shoutcst or will another music serivce work? Aha, now you are taking me beyond the edge of my understanding. I use Winamp, Shoutcast and I rent a stream inworld. This is what I know, and it works for me ![]() _____________________

So if I want to play my music I would populate it in Winamp then...lol, how do I know if I have Shoutcast lol, yes you are talking to someone who knows nothing about this. I see a Shoutcast button through Winamp, so does that mean I have it?

I see a Shoutcast button through Winamp, so does that mean I have it? Annoyingly, I'm travelling at the moment, so I'm suffering a crappy laptop instead of the home setup with Winamp etc. I work it instinctively, so much so that I can't bloody remember the way you find out. I think there is a drop down menu on Winamp which shows the installed plugins and lets you activate the ones that aren't. At this point, I make frantic gestures to other Winamp/Shoutcast users to come and bail me out of the increasingly gaping hole I am digging for myself ![]() _____________________

If you need a list of URL's of various "radio station's/broadcast" that you can use for free checkout http://www.shoutcast.com or IM me inworld ... and i can give you a notecard with some that i have collected/use. |

perhaps just follow the instructions on shoutcast.com ( or google for some help) there's really enough to find.
no need to rent a stream, with enough bandwith ( adsl will work too) you can use the shoutcast dnas on your own computer |

I have rented a Shoutcast server from these guys a few times : http://www2.annuna.net/
They have an in-world store, so you can pay for the server with L$. The web page also has instructions on how to setup Winamp. |

I agree it's MUCH easier to have a shoutcast server somewhere, versus trying to stream from your own cable/DSL connection. It does cost some $L, but most people's home upload bandwidth is such that trying to stream as a local server starts to pause and skip with more than a handful listening.
I used to have a primer online, here's a link to it... It might help a bit, anyway. http://www.lovelymachine.com/Dolmere/2008/03/jaycatt_nicos_streaming_primer.html |

Why do you use SL paid $L, to stream your music when i hear that streaming from Shoutcast/Winamp is free? by renting a stream from someone, they provide you with enough bandwidth so that many people can listen to the stream at one time. 3-4 people will use up all the upstream bandwidth of a typical DSL connection. Cable might be better. Shop around. You can get 30 listeners for much less than 4k L$ Max |

at 4k a month i get 100 listener limit..it's the basic a dj would need for sl..being that i am in the clubs alot and tend to stream in the clubs i manage or own or have friends that may own them..it's nice to have the room for everyone to be able to join in =)
if i were just wanting to listen to my own music and it was for my own use on my land i would stop my streaming on sl and just turn on my winamp and let it play while on my land..it wouldn't make sense for me to stream to my own land for me to hear ..then i am streaming and running winamp at the same time killing off system resources.. 4k is about the norm for 100 listener.. but if you don't need that much then yes i would shop around. *winks* _____________________

If you just want music on your little piece of land (and you have the right permissions) -
Open up www.shoutcast.com Pick a station you want, and click Tune In Winamp should open and it should start to play On the Winamp Console, click on File, and then View File Info This will show you the stream address - http, etc, etc Copy the Stream Address Go back to SL, click on World, then About Land Click on the Media Tab, and then paste the stream address into the Music URL box All being well, and after a second or two, you should hear the music via SL Of course, if you want to have parties with loads of people, you might need to rent a stream as others suggest. I have no idea how that works. Hope helps! |
