Getting some Linden's sim info

Although, getting land from Linden is cheaper then getting it in the private sector I've never done it so I don't really know anything about it as far as information regarding buying. I can go to the lands dept in sl's forum but I rather get info from those in the know instead of going there. At least for now, anyway.

1. Does Linden rent land? I don't think so but just to be sure, do they?

2. How much is an entire sim cost to buy? And are there some sims bigger then others or are they all the same size?

3. I want a sim all by itself, away from any other land. I believe this is possible but does it cost more then getting a regular sim which is next to another sim?

4. Although, this doesn't really concern me as my credit is good, someone told me Linden runs a credit check on buyers. Is this true? I wouldn't think so as long as you have the money in your credit cards to pay them.

1. The short answer is no, LL does not directly rent out land to residents.

It's tricky because Linden Lab owns all the servers so in essence they are renting out all of their land, taking their rent in tier fees. But they sell the land to residents. They don't play landlord. You can rent on an private estate (also called Islands) or rent on the mainland, but you would be renting from middlemen who "bought" the sims or Islands and are renting them out. Hope that makes sense.

2. Mainland sims are sold via auction so the price varies. Some are fetching more than US$4000 which is unbelievable to me. The monthy land fees are US$195. Go here to see what they are going for right now: http://usd.auctions.secondlife.com/

3. You are talking about Private estates called Islands. They are priced at US$1,675 for 65,536 square meters (about 16 acres). Monthly land fees for maintenance are US$295. Go here for more info: http://secondlife.com/community/land-islands.php

4. If you have a credit card with a decent limit, you are good to go.

A good place to start is by reading the land articles in the Knowledge Base, which is now inconveniently stashed away in the Support Portal. You can browse the articles using the little menus on the left, or you can search for "private island".

I suggest a private island only because you specifically mention you want a sim that is by itself, away from other land. That would have to be a private island, and you would be the estate owner.

Another option is purchasing mainland, but whole sims aren't always available for purchase or auction, and whatever you get would be next to or even surrounded by other mainland sims.

And yes, all sims/regions are the same size, 256m x 256m (=65,536 sq m).

I'm just in shock as to what two sims are up to on the auction page right now. I hope the winners get a free bar of gold with purchase. I just can't see paying US$4K for server space, no matter how pretty.

And why can't we see what recent sims sold for? It would be good info for current bidders to know. The new auction page sucks big time.

Raymond ... haven't you seen these two? Permutate has open protected ocean on three sides, with large areas of real sea connected. Sailor's paradise. Can't get that on an island. Just about unique, and $4000 is well within even ordinary seaside plot prices. It should be a nature reserve, but I suppose we will have to watch it being destroyed as usual. Or maybe ....

I saw the area, but did not realize that it was three sides protected ocean. I still would not pay that much personally, but it does make a bit more sense now. Thanks for the info. :)

If a Real Estate agent can earn 1000K per month then the price is reasonable. If you are going to buy the island as your home them it's a little expensive :).

The site http://land-answers.wiki.zoho.com might be useful, it has a lot of the articles from the Knowledgebase in it plus more plus user changes and additions.

Unbelievable. Although, I can afford this I just can't see myself paying any amount near 4k for land on sl. And the land isn't for profit as far as me building and selling stuff. It would be a residential area. I wouldn't pay half of 4k, not even 1k. This goes beyond excessiveness, it's just plain crazy to charge these amounts and crazier for those who pay it.

Thanks for info.
