I am wondering if LL is aware that the new Windlight changes the appearance<color/shading/tint> of any item with shiny on it? Many statues, furniture and artworks will no longer look as the content creator made them. Personally i would rather not crash while TPing than have yet another change to how we see the world.

It changes ANY item, shiny or not.

I've posted pictures to that effect on SLUniverse.

You are going on the assumption that LL really cares.

not bad for having cool water eh?

did u also notice parts of buildings dissapear, avatar shading gone to hell and not even back this time and that u can set the land mesh detail!!!!

just a simple picture to look at all day long and no one else will see it like u have created it for, err... if u created it with the normal client, better rebuild, btw, where are the shadows to make it *actually* worthwhile to use like promised???

LL wants to have 60 million folks at a time online using SL technology. They are more concerned with pleasing the 59,950 potential customers than with pleasing the 50,000 concurrent that exist currently. So they have to try to improve. They have to compete against offerings that don't exist yet, or their future comptetion will get the business. So they have to make progress, and they can't make progress without change - so nothing is guaranteed to remain the same in SL.

It's always a good time to take some snapshots of the things you like in SL, and some videos, and write a note about them, because tomorrow you may not be able to see them the same way.

Said beautifully Suezanne. SL is going to continue to change and develop. With that some things will become obsolete. Some creations will become useless, new skills will become valuable. It may have taken millions of years before humans first created the wheel but in the computer age you better be willing to change very fast.

I tried Windlight for a few days and was a bit mesmerized by the beautiful water and some other things. Unfortunately, I reverted back to non-Windlight and will stay with it until the Windlight problems/idiosyncrasies are addressed.

My main complaint was the look of my avie. He lost so much of his appeal (lol). For example, his hair became washed-out (no pun intended), and his palor became darker in an unappealing way.

On one hand, I am excited about what I saw in Windlight in regards to the SL environment. In many ways, it looked great. The graphic artists out there will love it. On a personal level, however, WL needs further tweaking in order to truly capture its true potential.

Avanti.

It makes water and sky look nice but while metals look shiny they seem to have the colour bleached out of them like overexposed photos...a superb copper tiles texture I use is almost whited out in windlight.
