Is anyone having a bigger than usual problem crashing since yesterday? I can't seem to stay connected. Trying to assess if it's just me or the grid. If it's me, I guess I'll have to send a support ticket, blah.

Crashing is a part of my normal everyday "second"life..so I suppose I'm too used to it to send support tickets. Have you tried clearing your cache and relogging? That can help.

I normally crash a three or four times in a five hour stint, but the last few days it seems to have gotten worse.

No. I have crashed repeatedly, and for no reason, and have locked up so often with the voice client. Now that the voice client is a mandatory upgrade we really are stuck suffering with this problem caused by a feature that I sure as hell do not want.

It's in the viewer Preferences.

Check your settings options in the client (Ctrl + P or "Edit -> Preferences";), go to the "Network" tab and you will find the clear cache button there :)

The last time I crashed, I came down from a sky platform in a sand box after working on something, and ended up on the inside of some newbie's hut. He stared at me and exclaimed "how did you get in here?", then I crash before I managed to answer, so he probably think he has great mind control (either that or he actually did crash my client, but I doubt it).

SL has been surprisingly stable for me for a few months until this latest update where it is now crashing several times daily... this is why I often refer to these updates as "downdates" :(

It's also a good idea to do some regular maintenance - clean up your computer's performance by dumping/compressing old files, and defragging your hard drive. And check your drivers for the latest updates.

And the Nicholaz viewer is incredibly stable. Voice or the old school non voice version.

Since I went to Nicholaz, my crashing is much less frequent. However the last few days I've had occasional lockups that cause me to have to kill the power switch on the surge suppressor to reboot.

Top menu, Edit/Preferences/Network tab ... clear cache checkbox. The cache will actually clear next time you start SL.

Try to login to a lagfree sim when you relog; then open your inventory and type a couple of characters into search. It is safest to wait until your entire inventory loads (the number of items no longer has a ... after it) before you TP or add/delete anything from inventory.

Incidently, on my client there is now also a checkbox to clear cache on the login screen; I don't know whether that's a feature of the Nicholaz viewer, the voice viewer, or what. But it is definitely in edit/preferences.

There's a 'Clear Browser Cache' in there somewhere too...that's NOT the one you want for this.

I mentioned dis on another thread: I'm seeing a lot of crashed the last couple days, usually crash to desktop. I've also been seeing a lot of really slow, bad logins where

1. the friends online "builds" slowly, with each little blue "online" notice coming taking about 1/4 second to come in, me being ruthed, often at coordinate 10, 10, 10, with nothing rezzing around me at all. Oftentimes my shape does not load due to the delay, nor do I get offlines/group notices/inventory offers that I would typically see when I log in.

Cache has been cleared, etc.

I have to assume it is some back-end work on the friend's system dat's causing it.

Yesterday was unreal for me regarding crashes with no warning whatsoever. I'm one of the lucky ones who rarely crashes at all but in the span of about 4 hours yesterday I crashed to desktop about 9 times with - 6 of those all in a one 1 hour span .

It happened again though not as severe last night with only 2 crashes in about 2 hours.

This morning I was really laggy (more than usual I mean) and my Recent Items list was borked. I crashed twice within a few minutes of logging on. I've cleared cache and so far so good for the past couple of hours.

I haven't been crashing more than normal, but the last 5-7 days has been noticeably laggier for me pretty much everywhere.

dunno if this helps, but I've had huge lag spikes where even the ui is slow to respond.... sometimes ending in crash

9 of 10 times closing a lagging group chat solves the problem
seems to affect larger groups more.

also noticed a problem where I get stutter lag (as heard through speakers)... almost always ending in crash

usually after a tp and immediate opening of an inventory item, or after revieving a new item dropped on me and immediately opened (not pics notecards)

Funny, I don't crash when I'm not logged on. Wonder if there is message here?

Probably along the same lines that I don't lose inventory items when I haven't got any.

"Crashing since yesterday?"

Crashing is the norm for sl. And guess what? Linden isn't doing anything about it.

As a last resort, you can always reinstall the client. Sometimes that cures crashes also.

and if you think about reinstalling, think about adding the Nicholaz BE-s viewer to your SL folder and using it instead....

true it reverts the communicate box to the old friends and IM lists (which some dislike) but includes many fixes for stability
... search it
