That's a good question!
My brother & sister signed up not too long ago and I think there was maybe 4-5 choices per gender....something like that. Every inventory library will have some selection of avatar parts to choose from to change the avatar once in world. But, I don't know if it includes all the features of the avatars in the initial selection.....my guess is it probably does. Why do you ask? I'm curious because honestly.....no matter what avatar one picks to start out with......it can be completely changed once ya get logged in and aquainted with all the different features. _____________________

All the avatars you see at signup, plus a few others, are in your Inventory, in the Library/Clothing folder.
And, as Milla says, you can quickly change any of those, either a little bit or completely, once you get in world. One way to change your av is with the apppearance sliders (see the thread on proportions). A quicker way is by seeking out freebies. Clothes, hair, even skins and shapes. _____________________

They get to pick from a choice of 12 on the SL signup page. These are in randomized order, and the selection changes a little over time. All of the current ones, plus some more that aren't in the current rotation, are in the library.
To see what new users are presented with at the moment: https://join.secondlife.com/ Other portals still get to do their own thing if they want. |

The University of Caledon Oxbridge has a great collection of freebie avatars. I've never used them but if I were a newbie, I'd make a beeline for them straight off. Perhaps I'm fussy but I have to say the newbie Linden avatars supplied over the past year are really crap by and large - I actually miss the 'boy next door' and 'girl next door' avs that were popular when I first rezzed a couple of years back.
You might look a little old-fashioned (the avs are kind of steampunk victorian in keeping with the Caledon theme) but very few newbie accounts use them so you will stand some chance of looking a little more original. Also it's well worth your while to make a tour of the exhibits there and pick up the basic skills you need to know about SL. It shouldn't take more than a few hours of your time to get the hang of things. Believe me, you will be glad you did it. |

Top row, number 5, looking good
![]() Bottom row, number 3 == I've just come from WoW I also notice, from a bit of playing about, that the first name is checked for unacceptable strings. Either that, or every second name is taken for 'Scunthorpe'. _____________________

That reminds me - you hardly ever see any of the original newbie avatars now - I did see one of those guys in a white T-shirt and jeans quite recently, however, but he was by no means a newbie!

<.< are the outfits and such included very umm furry friendly? I think there may be some furries but to tell the truth I can't recall for sure. I'll pass you and the OP a landmark in-world. You can check them out for yourselves. |

<.< are the outfits and such included very umm furry friendly? Yes. There are even 2 specifically furry newbie avatars at Caledon Oxbridge (Lady Cloud Cougar and Mr Roderick Cougar) as well as a very cute selection of tinies. FWIW, most human clothes can be worn with furry avatars. The main problems to watch out for are: 1) Trousers and digigrade legs. Best solved with a trouser length of 60 - 75 depending on the avatar. 2) Tails and attachments such as belts, prim skirts, coat tails, genitals, etc. Frequently the only way around this is to make a copy of the offending clothing item and attach it to a different attachment point. Chances are you'll need to spend a bit of time hoisted up on a posing stand while you re-align the attachable clothing items. 3) All-prim avatars such as the Seawolf anthro dragon avatars. They look great but you can forget about wearing clothing-layer clothes with them as they will be underneath the attached prims. There's seldom enough attachment points left for prim clothes. _____________________

Well I use the kani bunneh avatar (nevar going to need another!). Pants are fine if they are mod, I just wind up with bell bottoms... Tail is worked around with me having one for stomach and one for pelvis slots. Easier than manipulating clothing again and again. Can just wear the proper tail. |

Ah right. In your case just try out the various Caledon outfits with your bunny avatar. Should work just fine. Get in there before your 30-day limit expires.

In my experience bell bottoms and digigrade legs seldom work as the invisiprim used to hide the base avatar foot & lower leg also has a habit of knocking holes in trousers... spoken as someone who always wore flares in SL until digigrade legs came along.

<.< are the outfits and such included very umm furry friendly? The best free furry avatar you can get is Uchi's cat, but you have to hunt all over Curious to get it, and possibly fish it out of a black hole in the northwest of the sim. There's a rare white rabbit on the top floor of the Gnubie Store in Powder Mill. Checking Wingless Emoto's picks will get you her collection of avatars, which include some absolutely amazing reindeer. There's some groups that have avatars in the group notices now and then. There's a bunch of other freebie furry avatar collections around the place... but these are the best. _____________________
