72,000 Avatars = unable to use SL!

Recently I have observed that whenever 72,000 Avatars come online, everything borks. My island vanishes in chunks, I can't fly, and I can't rez or build, or log in when I crash. As I am in the middle of a very large commission (rebuilding the RL Sagrada Familia Cathedral in SL - mad but true), I am feeling a large level of frustration.

Is 72,000 a magic number for the servers? Has anyone else noticed this problem?
Runescape can cope with over 111,000 avatars/customers, I am reliably informed....

Best wishes from Ainee Kohime

SL isn't Runescape, whatever that is. Not too long ago, 60K was the magic number, not long before that 50K, and not too long ago 30K was the tipping point. While frustrating, it is one area where steady progress has been made. I imagine in couple of months 100K will be the moaning point.

I used to play Runescape waaay long time ago

but I can still remember

how the pures used to make me smile

and I knew if I had my chance

I would make pkers dance

and that would make me happy for a while

but Damage, Inc made me shiver

I hid behind Chronic24 and Tibber

bad news on the way now

we all left to play WoW

People complain now.... people have always complained.

But guess what. When I started 10,000 people online ment the grid was dead.

I remember when 5k was a lofty number. LL had an event to entice people to all login at once. If you stayed in for an hour, you became eligible for a raffle. The winner would get their account upgraded to a charter membership. And we all got little ghost particle pets too.

/me still has his

You can't compare SL to MMORPG grids. MMORPG worlds are almost completely, if not entirely created by the game publisher so the builds and avatars can be designed far more efficiently in terms of impact on the server performance.

i know what you mean..i remember seeing it jump to 30k real quick after the first boom and was like..we are never gonna be able to move now.here we are seeing 70's and 80's and still tickin..
although i never really have a hard time getting in when it's packed it seems..you can't really do a lot but it's fun gettin in and getting the music playing :D
