House disappears on Rezzing

OK, have just come home dejectedly with my hair and shoes up my butt at the same time, but that's another story.

I've been building myself a little house, which I finished tonight, and for a first attempt, I am quite pleased with it. I've navigated teleporters, doors that open when you touch them, window tint scripts, etc, and it all worked, so am quite pleased with myself.

Anyway, went round and checked everything worked (several times), linked it all up, and then took it into inventory. I then gave a copy to my alt, just to test - I've read that you should do this! When we came to put it back down, it kind of appears for a few seconds, and then vanishes into thin air. This happens for both of us. There is a bit of sparkly swirling where the windows were, but everything else is gone except for the bit of the teleporter that makes the beam.

There is nothing returned to inventory, and the prim count on the land remains the same, so it literally vanishes. The structure I've build from scratch, and all the scripts, etc, are copy/mod/transfer, except for the window script which is no mod, but surely that wouldn't make a difference. I even tried it in a sandbox, but the same thing happened.

Anyone got any ideas??

Thanks

Jen

Is the object marked to be temporary in object parameters found in the object tab when editing?

The no mod script may not be beyond suspicion, actually. Amid the general copybot/llGetPrimitiveParams hysteria there have been some ill conceived code snippets in circulation that will do things like make an object self-destruct if foreign scripts are found. You might try rezzing the house on no script land somewhere to rule out this possibility.

Unless I missed it, does it go into your "Lost Items"?

Unlink the house once you put it down. Deselect the teleporters, and then link it again. It's probably the teleporters.

Thanks for your help guys!!

OK, went to my other bit of land, turned off scripts, and house went down OK, windows intact & everything. Then, I couldn't get out as I couldn't open the door, so took it back into inventory. Of course then the same thing happened.

Interestingly, you can wear the house on your hand, etc, so I did that, and then dropped it. It seemed to stay, but it was up in the air. As I was trying to put it down it obviously crossed into next door's plot, and they have no object entry on, so it has now disappeared into the ether altogether. Have checked lost and found, but no sign. Maybe it'll turn up in a day or so.

If it ever comes back, I will take out the teleporters. I think it might be something to do with the window script, hence the swirlingness. The script calls for you to put a "key reference" in the description of each window, which then ties up with a controller. I did have two controllers at one point (one for each level), which didn't work - maybe it's all just a bit confused!!

Thanks

My guess is that you ended up linking the teleporter "beam" to the rest of the house. Such 'beams' are usually scripted as temp-on-rez or to use llDie to delete themselves after a while, and have the base spawn a new one. If the house got linked to a temp-on-rez prim, the whole thing might be temp on rez, and those just vanish. So do prims with an llDie script in them.

A few nights ago I had spent about 40 mins working on a build when it just vanished. I also checked everywhere and nothing. I began all over again and this time I spent over an hr building and once again it vanished. Entire night wasted and had nothing to show for it.

Save often.

Whenever I'm building my Inventory is filled with Version 1a, 1b, 1c, etc. because I Take a Copy at about 15min intervals, then rename. I keep at least 3 versions back, then delete all the earlier ones.

If you get in the habit of doing this, you'll never lose more than about 10-15 minutes of work.

I had build parts disappear on me last night. Also, some linked prims refusing to be modified - and some acting like a chopped up megaprim despite being normal size/ So although the theories here are all very credible it could just be a freaky SL thing too.
