Well, the curse of the non-supported Basic account ... I have tried to contact LL and every time I'm told that my problem is not one that is allowed support from LL. So I either pony up the RL funds, or I live with the problem, unless I can figure out how to fix it myself.
The problem: I created a group, and when I try to initiate a group chat I get the following message:
"Second Life: You are the only participant in this IM session. Your message is not being retransmitted or stored."
Anyone else tries to start a group chat and they are told they are not authorized.
I formed a fresh group with the newest release, just to see what would happen. Same problem. I added my alt as an owner, and we both get the same message as above.
Now, my *old* group from over a year ago ... everything still works fine. Groups that I am a member of, but I didn't create ... still works fine.
Can anyone offer some suggestions? LL is absolutely no help. They will *not* give me support on this issue unless I become a premium account. I haven't put RL money into SL in 2 years, and I don't plan to start now. But, I can't run my businesses without my groups functioning properly.

Check the permissions on the roles you assigned to the others. I think by default the group chat is not ticked, but I might be wrong there. Also, if you are the only group member currently online, you get the "only participant" message naturally.

Also, if you are the only group member currently online, you get the "only participant" message naturally. That's why I added my alt, so I can ensure that at least both of us are in-world for testing. As for the group chat perms ... I thought you might have been on to something there. It wasn't that *I* didn't have the ability to start the chat, my members didn't have the ability to join the chat. Therefore, the system would only broadcast to me, the owner, as I was the only person who had the ability to join group chat. But, after making the change to the roles to allow Everyone to join group chat ... still no change. However, I won't write this off as not being the solution yet as I've seen in the past that changes to groups can sometimes take a while to go through.

The default is for users not to be able to join group chat?

Ciaran, I think they changed that around the same time they made "pay group liabilities" turned on for everyone by default. I wasn't completely sure since I'm not inworld to check but thought I saw something like this when I created a group a bit back.

That message just means that there is only one person that SL thinks is in chat. If you and your alt were logged in at same time - perhaps the one not trying to send a message previously had the window open and closed it in same session. If that happens the group IM window would not open again - resulting in only one participant.

No it seems to be set to be default on, these are new permissions Novis just added with the latest client.

Ehrrrm. You're right, I might have mixed that up with notices. Just checked, and since I didn't install the latest client yet, I don't see the chat option with my group.

I have been having that same issue for a couple weeks, when I created the SL group for the hunt, I wanted to use it to discuss things with the others who offered to help me organize it, however the group chat always gave that error, unless someone else had the group chat window open
I don't remember if I found a jira on it or not, as I just gave up trying to use the group for chat
for the record, the folks HAVE permission to chat in the group, so that was not the problem

Well, it seems to be fixed now. A huge thank you to Novis for pointing me in the right direction. I was looking for problems with the group and the users, when the problem was with the profiles of the sub-groups. It seems to be working now, so that's a good thing.
Now, why wouldn't LL take 5 minutes of of their busy schedule to help me rather than make me jack around with this for 2 months?

I think the idea is, you don't think their product is worth your money so you are not worth their time..... in a nutshell. ~Bellissa

From: Bellissa Dion I think the idea is, you don't think their product is worth your money You're right ... I don't. I don't need to own land, and I make enough money in-world that I don't have any need to add RL funds.
