Does anybody know about a streaming audio http address fit to be used as ambient noise on an island?

Something natural with waves cashing would be ideal.

Thanks in advance.

Color me confused - couldn't you just buy a set of waves? They have the built in sound.

Well, since Waves Crashing is both my SL group and my internet domain name, I absolutely HAD to check this thread out! :D

I actually have some waves with the sound built in. The plus side is that the the sound is localized, so the volume changes based on how close you are to the waves. The down side is that the sound loop is pretty short, so the sound is fairly repetitive.

Ricky, if you do find something, let me know... I'd love it for my parcels too. :)

This is worth a shot... search google for the following (include the quote marks):

"internet radio" "nature sounds"

I'm seeing a few things that might work... now I have to remember how to pull the correct audio stream URL to use in SL. :)

Some of the freebie sound packages have rather long ocean ambient background files.

You might try the Live365 music system - I think they have some nature sound streams. I don't know if you can currently get them to play in SL or not.

Well, if you have a large area to cover (a whole region in my case), doing it purely with localized sounds is pretty cumbersome.

I thought that you couldn't resist jumping in here, Ava. ;)

Will let you know when I find something.

Thanks for the leads, folks! I appreciate it.

It would actually be better and more immersive to use localized sound objects rather than a stream. The ocean sounds should fade as you move inland and get louder the closer you are to the shore.

It would likely take about 20 prims to ring a sim with sound objects effectively.

Does anyone know where I can get threatening rain? It would make me feel so much at home.

Search the SLX marketplace for "weather"... there are several different weather systems on the market, most of which will give you a good threatening storm. :)

ETA: And here I was being serious, not realizing that Chas is just putting "threatening rain" comments on every thread known to man.

The Metaphysical Station...aka, Mystical Lore....for all your ambient noise needs.

I alternate between this and a "Zen" station at the house to give it a more serene, natural feel.

You definitely have a point there! I think I'll do that after all, as I still have a couple of 100 prims left to play with.
