Hiya
I use the ZHAO which is no copy by now and packed with tons of expensive anim sets. I am afraid to rezz it. When I am wearing the HUD I cannot add any items to its contents. Is there any workaround? Do I really have to rezz it every time I want to add or remove an anim? Is it safe to rezz on land I own? I really don't want to lose this item. Thanks.

I don't believe there is any way to edit without rezzing. You are as safe as possible rezzing on your land i would guess, but that isn't even a guarantee. Good luck.

AFAIK, you have to drop an object to the ground in order to edit its contents.
Ironic, isn't it, that LL bans wagering at the same time that a bug appears which makes it a total gamble to whether a no-copy item will make it back to your inventory or vanish into the ether.

Funny thing is... I just successfully added a bling script to my belt buckle which I happen to be wearing right now. Maybe I wear my AO on my hip?!

I don't have any problems modifying the contents of an object attached to HUD...

I think the difference has to do with the perms of the item's contents. Once there's a no-mod item in an attachment, I think that's what triggers the perms system to disallow adding other stuff to its inventory. (I can't get in-world to test this at the moment, but it's how I remember it working. Or maybe it's that one can't add no-copy stuff to the Inventory of an attached item. Anyway, it's something to do with the specific permissions. Ha! Big help, right? Sorry.)

You are right! If the anim is full perm I can add it to the attached HUD. But if it is "no transfer" I cannot. But commercial anims aren't full perm so this won't help.

When you rez it on yuor property, make sure you turn on "view transparent".
You probably already knew that, but I'm not sure....and Ive seen people in the past go runnning around screaming that they've lost something while it was being rezzed....only to find it sitting there (transparent), right where they rezzed it.

Be sure that Search is working in the sim when you rez your AO; the Lindens seem to recommend that as an early indicator of unhealthy database status in a region, at least until they fix their current issues. Personally, I have also been checking packet loss and rez rate (using texture console) before working on nocopy items. Probably this latter is checking my client PC health as much as anything else. And I only work on nocopy when there are very few avatars in the sim.
I haven't had any troubles whenever I'm careful. Had many troubles when any of these indicators are not happy ...

BTW, ZHAO II is not transparent. Small, yes, but not transparent, so you don't need to worry about losing invisible items. You can't move no-copy items between inventory and a worn attachment, SL doesn't permit it. It sure would be good if they could add that ability. I can see why it's a complication -- a special case. If it weren't for the problem that occasionally lately, we can actually lose an object when we rez it (GAK!) this wouldn't be such a big deal. Here's a tip. If you drag it out and you get a "can't rez, try again" error, give up and try again much later. The couple of times I lost a rezzed item completely, it was after several tries and getting that error. Also, if you drag it and it doesn't appear rather quickly, don't try again! Wait for either the object to appear or the error message. And, also try to avoid what I did, which was copying a something onto an active HUD! (arrgh) I should know better. To be safe, detach all HUDs when editing, or else pay very close attention when drag/dropping. (Better to use the Contents window, frankly.) I mis-dropped a fireplace texture, and now my XCite HUD looks like 16 little flames, with transparent background. Worse, I used to be able to use alt key to see the button boundaries, but that no longer works. Ah well! No doubt I could ask customer service for a replacement texture. This is just a warning and not a complaint.

good luck, monalisa.
i am always careful to be fully aware of the current "status" of sl when i rezz my AO for editing.
i lost an AO with well over L$2000 of animations in it - TWICE!
i did manage to contact the sellers of the animations. some were nice enough to forward additional copies. some just never answered.
i still do not understand why animation creators don't sell no-xfer but copyable animations. especially with sl being buggy at times about losing items rezzed in world.

I had to set my HUDDLES HUD back up this weekend...it had some issue where it couldn't read a notecard no matter what I did to it. So I had to rez a new copy of the HUD, drag my anims out of the old one, put them into the new one, and set up my various notecards again. I was paranoid the entire time, but my home sim is fairly problem free and it worked out fine in the end. Thank goodness!

Actually, I find that quite fitting....it's...HOT!

You can generally edit the notecards inside your HUD while it's attached (just detach and reattach it before reloading them). If I have to put something small down to edit it, I always make sure I'm somewhere with some autoreturn enabled, hopefully long enough for me to make my edits, but short enough that if I misplace it, it will eventually come back to me.
