Chat Log Question

I was chatting with a friend of mine yesterday in IM. He kept using a * before everthing he typed into the chat log box. I never thought anything about it. Have you ever noticed that when you re-open a chat box IM, the last conversation is still in there? Well, the last part of it anyways....

This morning, I opened my Chat box IM to him and noticed that all his posts were missing and only my posts existed. Is this a function of putting a * before everything you post or is there some other way he did this?

I have never seen anyone do that before. It will be interesting to find out. The only time I have ever seen an * proceed a word is when they are pointing out a spelling error.

I am definitely logging on with an alt this afternoon to check this out.

I do use an asterick around words to call attention to them sometimes, rather than quotes. I also use them around action words rather than typing "/me" sometimes -- as in:
*hugs*
*shakes fist*
*blushes*
