Hi Everyone,I joined Sl on the 22nd July 2008 and everything was running perfectly until two days ago.*** I have no problems with the log in but am having serious problems teleporting to different locations.*** Some of these I cannot get into at all, even though I could before the problems started.Yesterday, the problems were even worse, after about 20 attempts, I finally managed to tp to Franks but, the buildings did not rez correctly, my avatar was standing in a strange position and when I tried to "walk" I ended up running at top speed (unable to stop) straight through walls, stairs, avatars etc.** Then I crashed !!!** This happened more than once until I finally gave up and logged out of SL.** I know some locations are bad for lag and slow to rez but, some of my friends were dancing in the same location and they had no problems.****** Some tp's will not work at all and I end up crashing when I try to teleport.*** There are a few other problems as well but the tp and crashing are the main ones.I hoped the problems would settle down and resolve themselves overnight but, when I logged in again this morning, nothing was any different.***** I cleared cache and even uninstalled and re-installed SL but still have the same trouble. Can anyone help ?Thank you

This sound like network problems.
If nothing changed on your end, then maybe there is a problem with on of the hops between you and Lindelab.
Sadly there's nothing you can do but hope it gets better. :(

Pretty much as somebody said, go to bed early and hope for the best tomorrow. These types of network problems come and go, you either get used to them or just never log in again, unfortunately.

I mean if you are sure that your side is fine, your network speed is normal that is. Always tcheck the forums and the grid blog. They used to be super quick with posting network problems, not so fast anymore.

Lindal's Resident Geek here...

It could be your ISP...especially if they've adopted a policy of limiting bandwidth. Check your upload and download speed.

Or it might be on your end. Some things to check:

1. Turn off your cable modem or DSL router for a minute or two. Turn it back on and re-set it.

2. If you're on DSL, make sure all the other phones and devices in your home that are connected to phone jacks are equipped with microfilters.

3. If you are using a wireless network, consider using an ethernet cable instead, at least between your SL computer and your network router. If you are using a cable already, try swapping it out for a different one.

4. Do some computer maintenance. Defragment your hard drive. Open the case and blow out the dust bunnies. Run an up to date antivirus program and a couple of spyware detectors. Check your CPU, motherboard, and graphics card temperatures with a utility program (and if any of them are over about 60 deg C, find out why and correct it).

5. Eliminate the power supply as a problem, especially if the computer is three years old or more. First, make sure it's husky enough for the job. Then, make sure it is actually performing up to spec. Unless you have a voltmeter and know a bit about electronics, the easiest way to do this may be to get another power supply and swap it out. If the problem goes away, pat yourself on the back.

6. Speaking of dust bunnies...there seem to be software versions of these. Microsoft used to recommend wiping your hard drive and reinstalling Windows every year or two, just because minor errors and crud accumulate over time. It's a drastic solution, and I hate doing it because it always means a couple of days' work getting everything all set up again...but it does sometimes take care of mysterious nagging problems. Be sure to back up your data (especially your email files and address books) before you start!
