Well, thanks LL. Since you still can't figure out how to keep a database up, and REFUSE to use an ISP that has the faintest clue how to run a network, I lost 3 hours worth of work today.

Thanks. Thanks sooo much. Why do we pay you gobs of money every month when you can't keep the asset servers running for more than an hour without massive failures and data loss?
Isn't it totally clear to you yet that what you are doing IS NOT WORKING???????? Can you PLEASE hire someone that has a clue? These problems have been ongoing for many many months. This is very solvable. Just do it. Toss the pentium 3 133Mhz machines and get some REAL enterprise class hardware and not a desktop shoved in a rackmount case.

If you're leaving, can I have your stuff?

While I haven't lost anything like that, I feel your pain. It's unacceptable that they are so cheap that they would prefer that we suffer for months with uncertainty about our inventories than upgrade the asset servers to something that can handle the traffic.

You have to wonder if they said they had to take Second Life down for a couple of days to add in new hardware to allow for all the use SL gets, if people would be understanding.

I think in the long run it would be worth it.

Why are you yelling at us? We're not responsible for any of that.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Silly Sharie. As long as there are people like Meade that will stick with SL no matter what then LL has no reason to make a "better" service for the average user. They will just keep spending their time making a better platform for the business and education sector which is paying most their bills..... /sarcasm>

This is a live Platform, it's going to break, nothing runs right with heavy loads for 365 days a yr 24/7.

Not true. It is just really expensive. SL is still a start-up with limited resources.

I often wonder why these necro'ed threads have a current date on the postings. Some sort of sever issue no doubt.

Theyre also the only ones who have a world as advanced as this. Theres no models to copy off of. Yes, its messy and often broken, Ive lost well more than 3 hours work. Sometimes you have to take the bad with the good.

Theres plenty of opportunity to build another world, all one needs is several million in VC and loads of network infrastructure experience. If its better, i'll sign up! Anyone build it yet?

A few have tried, lets all run over to Kaneva and marvel at its greatness. Or maybe Entropia where we can... dig all day. Too bad you cant build anything in it, but its more stable!

that is not a question you ask LL, that is a question you ask yourself.

I know why I continue to pay and "play"

why do you choose to continue to pay in money to something you are obviously not happy with, that is something you have to ask and decide for yourself. LL is not forcing you to pay, plenty of people use SL without any cost other than their internet connection.

No other paid service runs with this poor level of reliability either. Nobody here is asking for perfection. We are asking for it to be usable for more than an hour at a time.

sounds like a hardware problem, which is fixable on your end. almost all complex apps have conflicts with one type of hardware or another.

My computers/databases/applicatons at work run 24/7 except for very very short maintenance outages -- which only account for roughly an hour every 3-6 months. The do not break in between times. Many many companies are the same way. Large enterprise applications can run almost continually.

The difference with SL is that it is a different type of world/application and usage than other computer setups. They are breaking ground and the learning is painful to all of us.

Even with that though, I think the problems have gotten worse in the last 6-9 months and they are simply grasping and guessing at solutions, without a solid plan. It used to be that the grid actually went down a lot. Now the grid stays up, but the databases simply die and nobody can do anything inworld or we lose inventory, etc...
