I did my first live SL gig on Saturday, all went well untill the last 10 minutes when my mic suddenly stopped working.

Anyway.... It took me quite a while to figure out what went wrong....but eventually I did....and though I wasn't laughing at the time, I kinda see the funny side of it now...

The jack connection from my mic seems to have broken in half with one half being stuck inside the mic socket on the front of my computer and I've absolutely no idea how I'm going to get it out......... I'm at my wit's end...well whatever's left of them anyway!!

Would any of you kind people have any suggestions?? (please no rude ones, no-matter how tempting it may be :D )

Pick up the computer and tilt it so the object can fall out. Shake gently.

Tweezers.

Wrap some tape around a pin and get it out with that.

Open computer, see if you can get it out from inside.

Go to store, buy soundcard and mike, or a spare mike plug, install sound card, splice mike wires, proceed.

Get usb mike converter, and usb mike.

How about :

Sharpen a match stick slightly. Check that it locates ok into the jack socket.

Carefully load the end of the match stick with super glue. Delicately insert into the jack socket to engage with the broken end of the plug.

Leave in place for 5 minutes to ensure the best possible adhesion. Withdraw match stick with slow steady pressure. Hey presto, problem solved.

N.B. This is almost as good as pixel sex..

Thanks guys for the suggestions.....

I'm going to try to open it up tomorrow and see if I can take it out that way, I'd use the 'tilt & shake' method but it's wedged in pretty tightly.

The 'superglue' sounds interesting ...though I'll leave that untill the last resort...

Regarding 'pixelsex'...lol well, If it's half as much trouble as getting a jack stuck inside your computer....lol.....I think I'll leave it for now :D

If any of the broken mic connection is sticking out of the hole grab it with needle nose pliers and pull it out.

Unfortunately, none of the broken connection is visible....so I can't use a pliers etc....

I know that this isn't a world-changing issue...lol...but it's driving me absolutely insane!

All great suggestions posted above.

Next time, try not to dance around the room so much during a gig.

No suggestions to add to the above.

But I think Pocket has just won the 'Must Click On' Thread Title Of The Year award. :-D

One thing my dad did when something similar happened to him with a stereo was to drill a tiny hole into the stuck piece.. then insert a needle with a thin coating of super glue or something equally sticky into the hole. He could then pull it out.. or it broke the thing into pieces so they fell out. I can't remember which, but it worked.

I have to agree with Kelly Kuiper "But I think Pocket has just won the 'Must Click On' Thread Title Of The Year award. :-D". Although it was a "must" click on thread, I have to admit a tiny bit of anxiety came with that click! :p

put the other half of the plug back in, put some presure on it, so it pushes against the broken half, and patiently twist it around, slightly pulling it ?

Yes I too would like to be on the official Pop Up Pocket Posts should such a thing exist.

I was fully intending on attending at the weekend, but I became entangled in the web of amusing banter being delivered by Djai Skjellerup and his Doo Do Doooo's.

By the way, I've been genuinely trying to think of a way to get your broken plug out. I was going down the route of the tiny drill idea, or perhaps some solder on a paperclip? Yes, solder on a paperclip!! Thats the answer!! I'm a genius!

Failing that you could try and find somebody with really tiny hands.
