Not all of my inventory will load. Why is this happening?
Folders which normally have items in are now empty, and I know that there should be things there...

Check your filters; make sure they are all selected, and that you don't have a funky date typed in the date section.
Sometimes it helps to TP to another region as well.

you should go into your preferences, clear your cache and relog.
it's also possible that SL is being glitchy right now. relog usually solves these little things.

Sometimes it helps to TP to another region as well. I have TPed somewhere else and also checked that they're all ticked. I have also logged off and on twice.

I'm quoting Pegy Paperdoll from another thread, but this 'trick' has been suggested by others as well. Maybe, you've already tried this, but just in case;
"Reboot your router and modem. Also try searching your inventory by typing the letter "a" then "e", "i", "o", "u" and "y"..........one at a time (let the search finish for each letter). Those are the vowels in the English language so you should certainly hit every item in your inventory. Most of the time just searching "a" will get the job done.
Forces SL's servers to resend your inventory to your client."
(Sorry, Peggy. Not too sure how to quote from another thread (Lazy).
