I've been hunting down where to buy an item in Second Life for the past few days. I'd like to start customizing my Avi to my liking, but can't find out how to find the stuff I'd want D; It's most likely a super noob question, but I need help! Can't anyone shed some light on this?

Second Life is lke one huge shopping mall! What are you lookng for? Open your Search box, type in a term in the all search for example and start there. You could also go to XStreet.com and use that as a jumping off spot.

Maybe if u give a hint of what u wd like to look like and what u r shopping for? I can recommend a great shape maker- everyone has opinions on hair and skin etc- clothes it depends on what look you favor- so many options! You may not even want to be human!

Explore it all!

Welcome to your SecondLife.. hang on, it's one hell of a ride :D

I recommend not spending any money at first. There are many decent quality freebies available and some stores even give special free offers for new residents. For hair, Search for ETD and 'GURL 6' - I believe they both still give vouchers for a free hair pack of your choice for new folks. Also search for the groups Free Style and Fabulously Free - both are pretty good resources for free stuff.

I agree with both the previous posters. We can help you find what you want, and a good deal too. I can't even tell from your name if you look for male or female stuff! (Harder for us who are not familiar with American/English names)

I am not sure I agree totally with what LittleMe said, if you want something certain or special, you might want to pay to get it just right. Is it good to take advantage of free gifts, I spend a lot of money in SL but I also get the freebies that suit my taste.

Well, I'm kinda looking for anthro avatar sets. Also trying to find things like hoodies and goggles for accessories. I didn't list them in my first post because just listing a bunch of items off wouldn't of gotten me anywhere.

I spend tons of money in SL in addition to nabbing all sorts of decent freebies. I only recommend not spending any real money for the first few weeks to a month of coming into SL because many people really need that much time to get a better feel for what is available, what they really want (as opposed to what they maybe at first thought they wanted), and a better idea of SL quality.

It can be pretty hard to find specific things. The search pulls up some things but it never really pulls up the best shops on the first page. Try xstreet or one of the other shopping websites out there.

You'll soon be blinking at all the light shone your way and wish you had never asked! Prepare to become a SL shopping addict....free or not, there is so much to be found in SL!

Begin with the free blogs - almost all they post on those is free, and it's a fun way to discover good shops and explore the SL grid. You can see what you are going to get before you go there, so you can pick & choose.

These are just for men since I don't know which av you have:

To use a freebie blog, click the link of the store of the item you like, and it will take you to a teleport page. Click that and if you are already in SL it will open a teleport in SL. If you aren't already in SL the teleport link will open the SL screen for you. I always do it the first way since some website opening SL and asking me to log in makes me skittish.

Either way have fun.

XStreetsl is a good place to get a sample of what SL can offer. I only typed in "anthro" in search and got up several pages.

https://www.xstreetsl.com/modules.php?ItemID=1174715&SearchLocale=0&searchSubmitImage_x=0&searchSubmitImage_y=0&name=Marketplace&SearchKeyword=anthro&SearchLocale=0&SearchPriceMin=&SearchPriceMax=&SearchRatingMin=&SearchRatingMax=&sort=&dir=asc&searchSubmitImage.x=0&searchSubmitImage.y=0

Now, you can go to the left and choose "Complete Animal Avatars" to narrow it down. Or, you can use "+" in search. "+anthro +goggles" bring up all ads who use those 2 words. Not all who create in SL use this page, but it is a place to start. If you find something that looks almost right and the creator has a shop in SL, go there. Not all list all their products on XStreet either. Or, maybe you find what you wanted in the shop next door. ;)

Try to go to Luskwood in SL. You will find people who you can talk to and ask for their advice. Most of us are glad to share our favourite designers with new people.

You should also got to Tower of Prims in SL and go through tutorials. That is good when you want to customize your avatar. Let us say you can't find an avatar that you like with goggles. You find the goggles you need but they are made for a human head. You need to stretch the goggles, edit individual prims, move and rotate them. Maybe they use the same attachment point as a head part so you need to find a new attachment point, maybe link the goggles and head....

I think it's very fun to do such things, but if you want to skip that part you can always ask for a custom made avatar. Find creators who has a style you lika and ask if they do custom work.

Good luck!

Still check the blogs above, sometimes they have things for anthropomorphic avs too. Sometimes things like houses, furniture etc. appear on the blogs too.

If you are looking for a specific product, the 'products wanted' forum sometimes helps.
