I'll be opening a new business soon, and will be looking for specialized employees ... what would be the very best way to do this? It will be a very "personal service" business, and I don't want to announce this all through in world, yet I need to get the attention of the people I'm looking for.
Any suggestions on how I would go about doing that?
PS: Please don't ask what the 'service' is ... it's a very delicate subject to some.
Thank you, Diana

When you figure it out, tell me.
I mainly rely upon hiring Events. I set aside an hour, usually before our actual entertainment Events, post it on the Events website, and stick around the hour to talk to anyone who want to come apply.

Hi Amity ... now see, I never even knew about hiring events. That would make me nervous, to look for help, just before the event! What happens if you find no one? I'm actually thinking of setting up a small building on my land, to have interviews ... and handing out my business cards to those I see in-world, who I feel might fit into the business. And yes, if "I" find out any other way, sure will let you know.

It's hard to suggest ways to attract the kind of people you are looking for when you won't say exactly what kind of people you are looking for.

From: Diana Dorben Hi Amity ... now see, I never even knew about hiring events.
About half the applications I get are from people who saw the Hiring Event in Search. But I'm not getting people walking in to apply every day. Maybe one or two a week. I always plan to be online early before the main events anyway, and I always have things I can be doing if no one shows up to apply. If someone does show up to apply and I talk to them, then that means that some of the things I needed to get done before the main event would have to wait until after. Doing it that way makes sense for me. My club isn't open 24 hours a day, it just has one event a night. I need an advertising method that targets people who are generally online when our main events run. We have used Groups dedicated to finding new employees, but only rarely have we gotten applications from them (and the applicants tend to be brand-new residents who haven't learned the basics of Second Life yet). I've run Classifies before and gotten nothing from them. By the way, I just read your Profile. Your Profile does not indicate that you have a business which is looking to hire people. Put it in your Profile. Then go out an socialize in places that might interest the types of employees for which you are looking. Profiles are widely read; it's like you're a walking billboard. It may be the most effective means of advertising you have. Oh- and I understand that when you think you have a good idea, you want to keep it a secret so you can capitalize on it before the rest of the world. But if you want to find the right kind of people, you can't do that by keeping it a secret. You need to let the secret out sooner or later. I try not to worry about people getting my ideas. I like to think that I'm talented and smart enough that, even though someone else might hear about my idea, they don't have my smarts and talent to actually execute the idea better than I can.

There's an employment section in the forums here. You have to scroll down to see it. SLUniverse, Second Citizen, and Slapt also have sections. I'm not sure if that new xstreet "forum" has one.
You could also put something in the classifieds, events, and parcel descriptions. You want it to show up in the SL search when someone looks for 'job' , 'hiring' , 'employment' etc. If you cater to a certain segment of the SL population you could try joining the various groups or try going to places where people congregate and drop some hints that you're hiring.

How do you expect to seek employees without giving any information about who you're hiring? Isn't that contradictory? O.o There's no one out there "looking for all jobs", they're all looking for "specific jobs".

Though this may not help much, as you don't have your business set up yet, one good place to look for employees once you're established is among your clientele.
The SL jobs I've had, I've been recruited for (once as a regular of the club where I was first hired to hostess, and again by club owners who knew me from my work at the other club). It's not just club jobs, of course - any existing client is going to know a bit about your business and how it operates and have at least a minimal interest in whatever it is that you do.
Good luck with your new venture!
