Warning to scripters & animators:

I used to know an animator who over time gave me all the sex animations he made. At some during the last week at least 30 or 40 of these animations became full permission in my inventory, and I mean total full permissions. The scripts are fully viewable & full perm and the animations, everything, is all copy, mod, transfer.

I am sure that I am not the only one who experienced the change in permission of these sex animations and that others who have these animations were probably gifted with full perm versions of them as well. Since this is not my problem or gripe I will not be submitting a ticket but I thought I would give scripters and animators a heads up. It appears the permissions change bug has reared its ugly head again since whatever it is that LL did to the servers recently and you might want to check it out.

I have just the opposite problem. Someone gave me a simple three-prim object, no scripts ever in it. I just need to insert scripts and give it back. It is sitting in my inventory full perms. Rez it and it turns no copy/no mod. I have seen times where someone set perms that did not take, but when transferred to me the perms showed in inventory as correct. This is the first time I have had one switch on rez, and the funny thing is I can move it around with the arrows, but not unlink or add anything to it.

Rez it and it turns no copy/no mod.

Yes I've seen this bug change permissions on an item when its rezzed but this is the first time I've seen it turn full perm in my inventory and when the animation balls are rezzed. I know for a fact that these animations were NOT full perm and the scripts inside were certainly no mod before.

The other thing that is different this time is the massive number of animations that were impacted, looks like the entire folder changed permissions! After I made this post someone messaged me that a sex bed had turned full perm but I have not confirmed that yet.

That's a shame, since you can clearly demonstrate the issue. If a scripter or animator wishes to submit a ticket, they'll have to find an actual instance of the mucked up permissions in order to give LL something to go on.

is it possible they set the permission while it was in inventory and forgot to rez it to set the permission so the whole thing takes the permissions

when creating a prim, the default permission is transfer

so after linking them and taking them to inventory, if they set the permission while it was in inventory and not rezzed in world, it may not have set the permissions on all prims

your friend needs to rez it and check each prim to confirm the permissions, then take it back and send to you

As Raorth described, this is the way it is supposed to work, if you have debug permissions checked on, you'd see an * in the properties for perms as they haven't been set until the object is rezzed.

So whomever gave you that Kenbro, changed the perms in inventory instead of in world and gave it to you (if they had rezzed then taken the copy and given that to you, it would have been fine). Or simply never change perms in inventory but always do it in world instead? ;)

Remember items in inventory don't exist at all, and changing perms there is really just like sticking a post-it note to them as a reminder for them to be changed later when the object is rezzed and finally does exist if that makes more sense?

But that only has to do with prims, and has nothing to do with scripts or anims like Katykiwi is describing...

The permissions change bug is an old one reported on JIRA two years ago and I was one of many who reported it and demonstrated it then. That did not prompt a Linden fix; my purpose is to just let people know it's happening again! This is no secret and the Lindens know about it.

Also, seeing a full permission animation does not demonstrate its original permissions so there really is no way to demo it on my part. The changed perms previously demonstrated to Leo Linden and others in 2007 was done by transferring the item to him so he could see for himself that the perms were as intended when the item was rezzed and changed to full perm in inventory. This time its changed to full perm in and out of inventory so there is no change to demonstrate.

Yes, the infamous slam bit error. I had run across that before, but just had never seen it where the correct permissions show in the inventory of the person receiving the transferred item. Any other time I had dealt with it, the person sending it saw it as full perms in their inventory, but in my inventory I immediately noticed the perms were not correct. I did instruct my friend to set perms, then rez, and then send again.
