Following on from an earlier thread, and because I don't want this to get lost, I recently opened what would be called an advertising store, and am honestly not plugging anything, but someone mentioned to me that they thought it would be a good idea to do a similar thing for Events, amongst other things, as the events listing is full of property for sale and other stuff that are not really events., if that makes any sense. What I am talking about is somewhere people holding real events can come and put up a poster and include a notecard giving details about the event that event-seekers can take away with them.

To be honest, if I can work out the logistics re the prims and getting the signs to work, I would be happy to host something like this for free, or for a nomimal sum like L$1 per week per ad.

Does this sound like a crazy idea? Obviously if I am doing this for nothing than I can't be spending money on advertising. Does anyone think this might work?

It's certainly a very real problem, but one without a very obvious solution that doesn't require manpower. So, the concern would be that your very generous offer would end up costing you so much time to "police" that it would make you pull the plug in despair. And the more successful it is in getting listings, the larger the likely labor sink.

The sick part is that LL has all the tools to make the regular Events list work--except that very manpower. They can get ARs of misfiled "Events"--they just can't afford to do anything about them, I guess. (Has anyone heard any Linden mention a plan for dealing with this problem, in some scalable way?)

If you're brave enough to try it, I'd suggest just going for it. The other option that gets mentioned in this context is a "cooperative" advertising network among event venues. It's a bit like inviting the "competition" to advertise at your event, but since it's reciprocal and hardly a zero-sum game, it could still make a lot of sense. Dunno how any of that might fit with the "advertising store" concept, though.
