How do you get high res aerial shots from USGS?

Google Earth has a nice enough interface; it's easy to find the place you want aerial shots of. The free Google Earth doesn't have a way to get high resolution shots, though. I think you can do that if you pay for Google Earth, but I'd prefere to avoid that.

It's my understanding that you can get these shots from the source, the USGS, the United States Geological Service. I checked out the USGS site and the interface is pretty clunky.

Anyone know how to get nice aerial shots that are like the one you found in Google Earth but higher resolution? Having found it in Google Earth, you'd know the latitude and longitude.

Have you used the links at that site to get a map similar to one you found at Google Earth but higher resolution?

Man! I havent used USGS maps in a looooong time. I would take land maps of our town & use them to create the terrain for various game engines.

I tried some of the links at the USGS site. They use Google Earth for picking out the area you want to order. What I found was something I didn't know what was, but it was free, so I downloaded it. What I got was a tar file with with a gs file with several files with an extension ddf, which turns out to be some kind of vector topological illustration.

The efficient approach might be to send them an email explaining what you want.

Not sure what you're after. Might check out:

Since 9/11 its practically impossible to get very high res ( 1m/pixel ) or greater without some sort of trail leading to you.

Most high res sat/aerial pics from "Geegle Oarth" are a few years old.

You may notice that "Giggly Urge" is made from a mosaic of different sources.

If you look at the bottom center of your screen it will tell you who the image is supplied by.

You won't get anything uptodate withought showing teh cash though.
