Bid Box Script Time Issues?

This is the chat log from a bid box of an item I was bidding on just now -- notice how long that last minute last and how it even changes back to 2 minutes?

The bid box gave out the prize and reset when the SL time said 14:35.


Is this some strange SL scripting issue related to getting the time or a true scam with these boxes to try and get the bid higher in the last few minutes:

Pretty much impossible to tell without seeing the actual script. Purely hypothetically, the script might add some time when it takes bids in the last minute of the auction, on the theory that it doesn't want to exclude legitimate bids if it is lagged. That's not a terrifically compelling theory, though, because the script could directly measure the sim lag--but things other than the sim itself might interfere with timely taking of bids, so... just random speculation, I'm afraid.
