Iam always Cloud!!??

Hello all

i formatted my computer, after that i reinstalled SL. i noticed that my avatar is always Cloud, i tried everything for example relog many times and waiting for 30 minutes or more, but the same result.

i tried also change my clothes because the appearance menu does not appear by pressing write click on my Cloud avatar, but this message always appeared when i try that:
"can't change appearance until clothing and shape are loaded".

if anybody have any idea please tell me and help me.

This might be a network problem. Any chance that the machine changed its network connection in that reformatting, or a firewall got activated that wasn't used before?

Also, just to be sure: this happens regardless of the sim in which you're trying to rez, right? (That is, it doesn't help to login to a different sim?)

first of all, thank you very much for your suggestions and help.

when i formatted my computer i used the same network connection and i did not change any sittings of the network.

iam sorry i dont know sim and rez stand for what, thats why i cant answer your second suggestion.

in general, i was use SL for more that 7 months and everythings was very good, i did not face any problem, this problem appeared after formatted my computer.

is it nessecary to install Service Pack 3 for my windows XP? maybe it is requirement for SL to run correctly?

To rez = the action of appearing, or landing in an area. You know, when you go from one place to another *Whoosh* You disappear, then re-appear. It can also mean to make something from your inventory appear. You 'rez' a cube, chair, etc.

Sim = (without going into too many details) an area of the grid (SL).

So, try an rez (travel) in another sim (area), example, go to any store (use Search) away from where you are now.

Networking is a good guess. Another idea: did you change your virus checker when you reformatted? If your virus checker is trying to check SL's cache on your hard drive, that could be slowing you down enough that you never complete loading. Most virus checkers can be set to ignore certain directories - in this case you want it to ignore the "Second Life" directory in Application Data.

It's possible that you are out of phase with the regular SL Grid. There continue to be pockets of instability spread here and there across the Grid, both stationary and in motion. If you had the misfortune to come in contact with one, especially during a teleport or region crossing where the Grid is most vulnerable, it may have caused your phase signature to shift ever so slightly out of frequency with the SL Grid. One of the following procedures may help you to correct that:

1) Try teleporting to a historically unstable (but low lag) region to help snap you back into proper phase. A good place to start would be the region of Rodeo. It is an undeveloped wild area on the oldest continent that contains known pockets of Grid instabilities. There is one near the landing point that you would undoubtedly encounter should you choose to teleport there. You may have to port to that point a few times for the re-alignment to fully take affect.

2) Another method you can use to force re-alignment is to run as fast as you can toward the intersection of two perpendicular region borders. You must target the exact point of intersection so that for a split second your body exists in four different regions at the same time. This causes a slight Grid overload for a few moments as it tries to work through the conflicting probabilities and, if you're lucky, the Grid will fail to resolve your avatar key and will fall back to the last known compatible key it has on record for you. That should put you back into phase. I would highly recommend attempting this in an undeveloped area of the Grid. If you try to do this in a highly developed region you run the risk of losing control of your physical body and entering negative space.

3) If neither of these methods work there is one last attempt you can try. The jump into Mt. G'al in the Mahulu region. The jump used to be consistently fatal, but G'al has been dormant of late. Most folks who make the jump now survive, though some do suffer the effects of the occasional Grid hiccup. It can be as healing as it is detrimental. It all depends on one's state of mind at the time of the jump. For some it is a leap of faith.

Try a new viewer. The GreenLife Viewer seems to use less bandwidth. I am a cloud no more.

Use Character > Character Test > Test Male or Female.

This will reset your av.

You will find this in the Advanced Menu.

If you don't have an Advanced Menu at the top of your GUI press Ctrl+Alt+D

You will look like a noob after you do this but you won't be a cloud...just put your regular shape and skin on.

U can buy a tool for 10 L from Day OH that makes you a cloud when you wear it and its kinda IN )

Your problem can have so many reasons

You could also try a rebake: Ctrl-Alt-R

If you are getting the message about your clothing not loading, Oryx's advice won't work. Hok's advice would work if there is something wrong with your actual avatar - you can test that by creating an alt and seeing if it, too, is always a cloud.

I'm inclined to think that something went wrong with your network coincidentally with you reformatting your computer - perhaps you are using wireless which is getting interference, or sharing your line with someone else, like at a school or work, and other people have begun using the line more? You can test that by either taking your computer to a different network (easy if it's a laptop), or persuading someone with a good computer and network to let you download SL and try it from there.

i have an alt with this same exact problem. he is always a cloud and i cannot go into appearance mode, wear a new shape, etc. viewer, etc makes no difference. he will not rez under any circumstances.

I am never Cloud, but sometimes I am Chocobo.

Did anyone suggest emptying your cache?
