I've tried 'searching' for the answer myself (503, 503, 503), in a discreet manner so as not to let everyone in on my lack of 'puter knowledge. Alas, the answer is probably so basic, I haven't been able to find it.
I'd like to delete 'Windlight'. Besides the application itself (.dmg) and the settings_windlight.xml file, is there anything else in the user settings I should trash?

not sure if i understand your problem. have you tried uninstalling? might be easier and cleaner than manual deleting.

You can always go back to the standard viewer or the RC viewer or any of the 5 or 6 3rd party viewers till next windlight update then try again.

Those 503 errors are LLABS side problems and issues.................It has nothing to do with your computer or your conection.........Reinstall the client viewer again if you havent........We all have had to deal with this problem for awhile now. Lets hope its fixed inthe next update.

@3Ring - I seem to recall that was the case. I tried using 'Search' ($%*?#!) to find some more info for you but failed, sorry @Randal, Tegg, Usaqi, Thank you for replying. Please excuse me if I wasn't too clear. I have both the regular viewer (which I'm keeping) and windlight. I would like to uninstall the windlight viewer. I thought that maybe because I had two of them, it would be safer to do it manually for some reason, (in case they shared some information about my account...) Most applications have some kind of info on uninstalling but so far, all I've found in the Knowledge Base use Windows terms and I have a Mac. This from the KB; "It's important to clear out temporary Second Life files (such as the cache) when reinstalling. Here's the process: 1. Open c:\Documents and Settings\(yourusername)\Local Settings and delete the contents of your Temp folder. 2. Open c:\Documents and Settings\(yourusername)\Application Data\Second Life and delete the contents of the Cache folder. 3. Uninstall Second Life using the Add/Remove Programs tool in your Windows Control Panel." Again, this might be really simple, but if you've never done it, and you're not used to the terms, it's a little confusing. I simply want to uninstall windlight and keep my regular SL viewer... To be honest, I think I'm probably making things much more complicated than they need to be.

From: Isabeau Imako ... I simply want to uninstall windlight and keep my regular SL viewer... To be honest, I think I'm probably making things much more complicated than they need to be. WindLight installs to its own directory (named something like Second Life First Look, but I'm not at my computer to check). However, it shares temp files and cache with the main viewer, so you can swap back and forth between them. I would simply uninstall the WindLight program, and then delete the temp files as described in the Knowledge Base (with changes as required for your Mac system).

I once used the uninstaller to remove one of the viewer versions, ouch! It removed shared files too, so I had to remember and reset my preferences and click away all those popups and stuff. So next time I would do it by manually deleting the folders instead.

Don't do it manually. You now have a lot of crap in the registry that didn't get deleted. There's a reason why these things come with uninstall routines-you'd never be able to delete and change back all that crap by hand. You *think* you deleted everything related to the programme, but you HAVEN'T. A programme also changes registry settings and installs DLLs that you would never find again. I never had problems uninstalling just one SL version-and I have them ALL. Regular, WL, Beta, RC, the Nicholaz version with its own shortcut....

Unfortunately I am not familiar with anything regarding Windows, etc, and when it comes to the topic of deleting a viewer in SL's Knowledge Base, they don't mention anything about how it's done when you have a mac OS. I've looked for some answers elsewhere, including this site: http://theappleblog.com/2007/04/19/new-to-mac-app-install-and-uninstall/and I'm thinking of purchasing this 'application deleter' for macs found here: http://appzapper.com/but I wish they (LL) would have taken the time to include some mac lingo with there instructions.... I'll try searching some more in the Mac Section of the forums. Thanx again

To have to click away a few pop ups if it deletes any preference choices is far better than to leave stuff behind that you will never find again (I don't know what "stuff" Macs leave behind when you just delete the programme file itself-Windows has, as I mentioned, stuff in the registry and those DLLs (libraries) that a programme installs). As I understood it from the Apple blog link you gave, it NORMALLY works to just drag the programme to trash-but I have no idea what format the Mac installer of SL came in and if it's one of the "messy" ones! Don't you even get an option that says "Uninstall SL"? (I have no idea at all about Macs, sorry! )

Macs don't have all that registry rubbish. All you need to do is go into your Applications folder, find the Second Life Windlight app, and drag it to the trash.

Thank you Ordinal, I should have known I was complicating my life for nothing. Would you believe I've been trying to figure this out since last night. I've used Search in the 'First Viewer', 'Mac', and 'RA' forums going through hoops to bypass all the 503's I'm getting and couldn't find an answer to the simple question of How to Uninstall SL on a mac. Why? Because it's so simple, no one has probably ever asked the question. *sigh I just couldn't accept the simplicity of it. Could you please tell me if I also have to trash my Second Life folder found in 'Application Support'? I don't mind losing any of my preferences set in my regular viewer...

That's a good question - I did take a look, but I couldn't find a separate folder for "Second Life" and "Second Life Windlight" in my Library/Application Support folder, which indicates to me that it uses the same one on the Mac. So, I wouldn't trash that if you don't want to remove all of your existing settings. (If you do, all that will happen is that you would have to reset permissions anyway, so it isn't that serious.)
I wouldn't worry that much about scrubbing every possible trace of the thing out of your machine - there might be the odd configuration file left, but, you know, does it matter? They won't actually be _doing_ anything.

Not like in Windows, where the leftovers clog the registry, then? (I'm totally Mac-illiterate ) Cool.
