Unregulated, and whislt not technically gambling as it isn't a random numbr generator but a game of skill, I'd personally not touch that with a bargepole. ***edit*** don't try to type and peel a clementine at the same time unless you want to type like I just did.

Hi Sara, Having to pay to play a game probably would turn people away IMHO. In the same way that having to pay to enter a "Best in..." contest would put people off. To be honest I wouldn´t play a trivia game anyway because I don´t like knowing in advance I´m going to lose /me hands Sara a cup of strong coffee

I had a Trivia game with Buzzers and a score board made. Folks don't have to pay anything to play. The host asks the trivia questions, the contestants buzz in and the host determines if the answer is correct. We give cash and prizes for the correct answers. I think the creator has this system for sale in his All Star Trivia Store.

Hmm, it might be interesting if there were a "betting" system, whereby everyone pays in some amount to enter, as rounds get more difficult people can bet more money (there's no point betting loads of money early on if the questions are easier since there'll be more people to win it off you).
For example, you could set it up with a minimum and maximum bid for a round based on difficulty, then each person matches the other players if they want to play, or drops out of the game.
But I don't see that being used except by players who're into that. For a more generic game you'd be better having either freebie prizes, or something of value that you have a chance of making back some other way. For example, in real-life pubs, pub-quizes are easily funded by the money made from drinks. You need to emulate that somehow.

I host trivia games on my land. I don't have a business there, I do it only for fun, so I don't have the funds to give away tons of money. So, I pay between 15L and 50L (depending on how much money I happen to have at that time) and sometimes other prizes for each correct answer and I also ask everyone to please donate some L$ to a prize pot, which goes to the person with the most correct answers at the end of the game. I ask everyone to donate to the pot, but don't put anyone on the spot if they don't. I have never had anyone show and then leave when I asked everyone to donate and I get a lot of compliments on my games. So I think it is acceptable, and most "trivia regulars" wouldn't mind paying, as long it's not a large amount of L$ required.
