I'm an intermediate noob learning the basics of rezzing and editing objects. (e.g. Practice in a sand box first if you don't want to destroy your house Anyway, I have rezzed an animated object which fails to execute any right-click menu. I have even tried my most precise laser mouse and right clicked 100's of times -- no menu. Therefore, I cannot "TAKE" and the unwanted object remains. Since it's a Christmas decoration, I really can't live with it year-round! How do I delete this object? BTW, the object is suspended in space.

Highlight transparant sometimes shows you the root of the object, maybe that helps.
Sometimes these are tiny prims, with an emitter. So grabbing the actual prim can be a challenge.
Other idea:
- make a simple cube and put it behind it. - select the cube and keep it selected - drag with your mouse over the cube and the object while keeping left mousebutton pressed to select anything closeby.
Good luck!

Yes, what Benski said, do 'CTRL/ALT/T' to highlight transparant, see if you can then see what/where to grab it.

If it's an emitter you might want to turn off particles so you can see the offending prim. Onn the regular viewer that's view menu, then Hide Particles. Otherwise it's ctrl/alt/shift/= (reverse the procedure to turn them on again).

Prim Edit Fail #2

Good luck! Thank you. Neither of these methods work. I cannot use the transparent function and I cannot make a cube. I have ZERO mouse functionality for Rt. Click. This is true whether it is a Mac or a PC mouse. This object is suspended in space outside of my skybox. If I right-click on my house I have full rt. click functionality, and ability to edit, but ZERO functionality in space. Can't I just get a weapon and destroy it?

Edit Object Fail #2: Partial SUCCESS!

Otherwise it's ctrl/alt/shift/= (reverse the procedure to turn them on again). Turning off the particles from the View Menu essentially killed the object: You can't see anything. But it wasn't returned to my Inventory either. I can only think of a work-around: buy a new set with the object in it and just forget about the fact that there's still an object out there even though you cannot see it! What do you think?

I think you can turn on beacons and find it. Leaving it will take up a prim that could be used elsewhere.

Edit Object Fail #2: TOTAL SUCCESS!!
12-17-2009 21:26
I could turn off the particle emitter but this "killed" the object only during my log-in! This means that every time I logged in I'd have to kill it.
So, I killed it again BUT this time I saw a TINY DOT, perhaps two times bigger than this period. I FINALLY got the cursor on there and got a menu! It's back in my Inventory, in quarantine!!
Thank you! Thank you, all for helping me!

From: kurt7D8 Avon Thank you. I'm on a Mac keyboard, and there is no ALT key. Do you know the Mac keyboard shortcut? Of course there's an 'alt' key on Mac keyboards: it's there between 'cntrl' and 'command' (the apple key). Sometimes it's labelled 'option'. As far as I recall, however, the Mac 'command' key often stands in for the 'alt' key on a PC keyboard. I could be very wrong about that but, what the heck, it wouldn't be the first time I got something wrong about 'puters and it likely won't be the last. Try 'cntrl+command+T' and look around for any transparent/semi-transparent objects such as a window or a tree since these are often made with transparent textures. Those items will be coloured red if the shortcut works. If you don't see red work try 'cntrl+option+T'and look again. Otherwise look for 'Highlight Transparent' in the 'View' menu. That will not only do the same thing but you will also find the appropriate Mac shortcut for future reference. It's a good idea to take note of shortcuts displayed on any application menu and make a habit of using them since these are generally the most frequently used and therefore convenient to know.

LOL yeah.. been there done that however a long time ago. One thing you can do is: In the tools menu of the viewer check 'Select My Objects Only' then you can open the edit window and draw with the mouse around an area and only the objects which are yours will be selected. This would help in finding another tiny prim whether you can actually see it or not. HTH.
