How long do I have to have a premium account before I can bid on auctioned land? I've scoured Second Life help and Google for an answer with no luck. I've had a premium account for 3 days and whenever I go to bid on ANY parcel, I receive the following messgae:
Your account is currently not eligible to participate in the Second Life auctions. Upgrade here.
I've placed this question in a ticket after not finding anything in the knowledge base, but figured I might get a quicker answer here.
Thanks

I don't know but I wouldn't be surprised if the delay you're seeing is normal. Mostly likely someone that knows the answer will be along shortly.
As far as buying land goes, there are a lot of mainland plots for sale. I'm thinking you can find a better deal on your own than you will in the auction.
Also, welcome to SL!

It should have been instant.
Have you used real money yet to buy lindens in SL (that's sometimes needed to trigger Payment info on file - so I'm throwing out a guess here)?
Does your profile say you are payment info on file (which it should if your premium went through)?
Was your credit card or paypal or whatever billed successfully for your Premium account?
Lastly - are you looking to buy an auction for land to build on, or to become a land flipper. Purchased land right now is usually cheaper than auction land - so if you're looking to build or to game the market, you might be better off going to direct purchase of land. Either use the land tab of search, or enable land for sale on the map and explore.
Auctions may start cheaper some of the time, but until all of the land flipper bots catch on to reality, they're likely going to end higher and if you win it will cost you.

The timer on the purchase limits starts with your first payment, reguardless of how long you've been in SL.

Yes to all the questions. Payment info has been used. Born 7-23 I used a verified paypal account. Would this have any bearing?
BTW: Are there any differences besides price between mainland I purchase from another person versus mainland I buy at auction?

right now the best price at auction is just under 3L/sm unless its changes the last 2 days
buying from someone else is as low as 1.5L/sm
use the land tab in search to find the best deals to go have a look see, sort by L/sm by clicking on that column
be aware of the changes to maturity level of mainland which could affect what you are able to do on the parcel you buy.

The only people that should have a reason to buy on auctions are the ones with property in the same sim for extra primspace etc..
Considering that the opening bid price is about 200% of the going low end price for Mainland - this is looking like a scam on LL's part

Thanks 7 days - or that's what it used to be back in 2007. Try live help if you want to check to see if it's changed.

Choose Mainland land as you have a premium account
07-27-2009 03:45
As you have a premium account, when using the inworld search for land for sale, remember to change the search dropdown from "All types" to "Mainland" before you press the search button.
Purchases of land on the mainland mean you own the land as far as linden labs is concerned, and your premium account supports 512 square meters of mainland land without you having to pay extra monthly tier
If you were to "buy" land on a private estate, you would actually be leasing the land from the estate owner and the 512 square meters you get from your premium account doesn't work with estate land so you would have to pay extra money monthly to the estate owner.
Also there is always the risk with leasing land from estate owners that they may steal the land if they have a dispute with you. Obviously this wouldn't happen with a reputable estate owner, but a new person wouldn't know which estate owners are reputable and which were not.
