I have a question, remember when Katrina devastated the country and we all pitched in to help...what, if anything, is everyone doing to help those flooded in the Midwest?

They're complaining about the awful smell from the backed up sewers on my street.

Let me ask a related question:
How does one trust a charity operated in Second Life, when those collecting the money intended for charity are anonymous?
I personally wouldn't trust anyone taking up a charitable donation in Second Life.
On the other hand, absolutely any mechanism that increases charitable giving is a positive thing. So if there are any reasons to trust Second Life charities, I'd like to hear them.

I am not sure what charities operated during Katrina in SL. And, I agree...difficult to know if/who you can trust charity wise. Anyone giving to RL charities?

It would need to be totally certified by LL as the official Red Cross presence. This seems pretty doable.

Mac, I'll vote for that if you make it a JIRA.

This seems pretty doable. That is by far the best idea I've read all day. It is very hard to determine who's real and who's not. Excellent!

The Relay for Life donation kiosks and vendors all come with instructions on how to verify that they are officially sanctioned by ACS(American Cancer Society)and that ALL funds go to the charity.
You can also go to the official websites, from there are links to the RFL of SL. If you go to ACS Island, at the landing spot is a display explaining what are the official kiosks and vendors. ACS/RFL make every effort to make it easy for donors to confirm where their lindens are going.
As a cancer survivor and supporter of Relay for Life, I appreciate how much thought has gone into making it plain that we are legitimate.

If you have money for charitable causes that are legit give to them in real life. If you want to help less fortunate real people in SL they exist here too.
