I'm studying the prim tools and collecting notecards as I go. Can I print them to a printer?

I think you have to copy-paste them to an external word processing program.

correct, they need to be copy and pasted to notepad, wordpad, etc then printed

If they are notecards you value I would recommend a SL notecards file in your my documents folder. As you cut/paste them from in world to text you can back them up that way. We never know when the asset server gods will demand sacrifices.
