Ok, so I'm clearing out my inventory...slowly, but surely (started with 34000+ items...T_T).

Since a lot of what I don't want is no transfer, it's getting deleted...it's kinda disheartening, but oh well...i can understand about perms, and stuff like that.

What I want to know is:

Is there somewhere I can put any transfer stuff up for sale, just so it can be passed on to someone else? And I don't want to go and spend a fortune on doing this, if there is...most will probably be given for free...or max. 5l. (It's going to be gone out of my inventory anyway, I'll be selling the original. once it's sold, it's sold, gone!).

Some of the stuff, I've been giving to friends, if they were interested. The rest so far...I've just been deleting. Any suggestions?

(Yes I'm doing this to maybe raise a handful of l's...but no, I'm not doing this as a business. I would rather pass stuff on to others, rather than delete it, where possible).

It would always require quite a bit of work I think to sell used items. Since you're not a store owner, you don't have an existing customer base to appeal to.

If you have land, you could try selling in-world and advertising here and there on forums. If you don't and you don't want to pay, you could ask a friend for some temporary prim use. You could also sell on Xstreet (you can specify the number of copies of an item for sale). For now that's still free, though you'd still need a place in-world to put your inventory box.

Either way, lot of work imo. You're probably better off just giving it away.

Since you want to get rid of the stuff one way or another, and you aren't particularly bothered about L$, and presumably you'd rather someone who wants it has it, you could try and get someone to let you use prims and space for a while, set the stuff for sale at 0L, and post everywhere that it's there and free to anyone who wants it - please take.

There are some junkyard sales. I was in one in a roleplay sim. That was furniture set out and for sale. The funny thing was that I had to take the item after I bought it. Silly me didn't get it, I am so used getting objects and folders right in my inventory. So I went home, couldn't find anything in my inventory, and had to go back and take the table. :)

Maybe some places let you set your stuff out. How you pack clothing isn't clear to me. Just put it in a box with a texture of the outfit on the outside and set a prize on the box? Maybe someone let you set out things for free or a very low payment.

I mean there are some who buy inventory too, and set it out for sale. Last Call outfits are very popular. I am not inworld and can't log in. You tried searching for junkyard sale?

You can get a bunch of friends together and hold a yardsale for a week or so. You'll need one friend with enough spare prims to let you all set out your stuff. In the case of clothing, take pics of yourself wearing the items, then put the pic on a box and pack the clothes into the box. The landowner friend will need to ensure that object return isn't on, or that you all belong to his/her land group, or whatever.

I'm setting up a huge yard sale for my own inventory clearance and have thought about letting others use some of the space, but I'm not really ready for that and probably won't be for a couple of months still.

Best bet might be someone that buys inventories -- try searching for yard sale, inventory clearance, resell used, etc..

Thanks for the ideas.

I'd had a look at one or two yard sale places before posting but they didn't seem to offer any way for other people to set their stuff up (then again, I didn't have a lot of time when I was looking, so it was just a quick browse.)

I also didnt realise that SL was still free. So that might be worth a look. I don't own land, but I do rent a small house. Only a handful of prims, but I have a couple left over, that would allow for an Xstreet box. Therefore, this would be something worth looking into.

And yes, L's aren't really a drivng force behind this. Prices would most likely be in the 0-5L range, with most being 0L.

I just want to pass on anything I don't have a use for, rather then deleting it. It just makes more sense to me.

Again, thanks for the replies ^^

(Also, sorry for taking ages to reply...RL dragged me away for a while...heh)

In re the comments about selling clothing (for example 'In the case of clothing, take pics of yourself wearing the items, then put the pic on a box and pack the clothes into the box')----good advice, though not so much if the OP wants to sell for L5 per, since each snapshot will cost L10. (Just a reminder. ^_^)

If OP is lucky, she can have the original textures. Lots of merchants include that in a pack.

It is also possible to upload to harddrive and set several pictures together with an editing program, and upload a collage of them. Upload a 4x4 pictures for 10L, that is 16 pictures for 10L. Using texture repeat and offset settings will make it possible to texture 16 individual boxes.

Before you think I'm so smart, I have to admit I read it.... but somehow I manage to remember such tips and find them again. My brain is much, much better organized than my inventory! http://sl4nowt.wordpress.com/2008/10/18/tip-save-money-on-texture-uploads-and-id-your-archived-stuff/

Put all the items you want to dispose of in one or more folders together. Use the File > Open New Window function in inventory to open multiple inventory windows. Open up all those item folders and do snapshot to disk including UI, or a screen capture. That will give you an easy list of all your items. Post the photo(s) on picasa or flikr, then refer people to it as far as "what you have for sale or giveaway". Then they can contact you and ask for what they want out of it, first come, first served.

That way you dont have to make boxes, use prims, vendors, or any of that stuff.

You might want to sort the folders by price:

Free items
5L$ items
10 L$ items, etc.
