Why is the group limit set to 25? Is there a way around this? I'm in a number of related groups and want to join more. Yes, that's a lot of groups and I should get a life. I have a lot of interests, what can I say? LOL

I think there are technical reasons for the limit; the data transfer to determine capabilities when accessing group-assigned parcels comes to mind.

Anyway, that's the way it is. 25 is the maximum.

If you need to be present in more groups, send one of your alts :)

Well, not so much "get a life" as get another Second Life. You need an alt to hold some of those groups.

There's some performance reason for the 25 group limit (it used to be 15). IIRC, it has something to do with queries issued each time an avatar dares to cross a parcel boundary, or some such implausible misadventure in software design. Anyway, it's unlikely to change any time soon. And practically everybody curses that limit sooner or later.

yes, some people are now using distribution lists in addition to groups for people who have more than 25 groups, im not sure of the details of how it works though.

One very early indicator that SL is laggy is when you open a Group info window and find that it takes forever to get the list of group members to update, complete with online status and role mapping.
Which leads me to believe that there are some pretty heavy queries going on in the background there. Hence the limit on the number of groups a resident can belong to.
