Sim Performance

In the past 2 weeks I have noticed several random problems occuring here in Qinglong. The one that really "broke the camels back" was when my "Hippotech Rental Server" lost contact with all of its "Rental Boxes". Since then, there seems to be random problems with the Rental System specifically and other indications of problems as well. I've looked at Sim performance using CTL-Shift-1. I am NOT an expert, but it looks to me that SCRIPTS are the most likely cause.

My observations (6:30 AM PDT on 9/4/2008) are as follows:

-________________LOW___________________Average_____________High
- Active Scripts____5575___________________5582________________5638
- Total Frame Time_19.4___________________22.3_________________31.7
- Script Time______16.5___________________17.2_________________27.2

- Sim FPS_________36_________________________________________45

If I go into the neighboring Sim (Saphira) there are a LOT fewer scripts and the Script Time is significantly lower and overall performance seems to be significantly better.

I've tried STOPPING many of the scripts that I have running in Qinglong but it hasn't made a noticeble difference in the #'s I observed. I want to be a good citizen and fix any problems I may be causing in the Sim.

I know there are several folks in the Sim using "Temporary Prims". Some of the folks are my tenants and some are ad-farmers. I do not know if that could be the cause of what I have observed.

I've looked at many of the articles in the Knowlege Base and tried many of the tips, but I have not been able to make a noticeable difference in the #'s I observed. I am open to any and all suggestions to improve performance in the Sim. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Is there any possible way (since Qinglong is Mainland) that I can get one of the Lindens to check out the Sim and see if any of the "Top Scripts" are on my land (or mine).

Thank you in advance,

Based on where slurl shows Qinglong, I'd think that's a a region on a class 5 server.. My home, on the other side of that continent and on a class 4 server, usually has at least 6000 active scripts. That really is the low-water mark and I've seen it (sadly) go over 9000 when a lot of people are around.

Unless they're pretty evil scripts, I don't think that's the problem. In theory, the sim wants to run at 45 frames/second. It should, in theory, do all the non-script stuff it needs to do for the frame then give any time left over to scripts. It's not possible, in theory, for scripts to lag non-script parts of the sim.

I'd look closer at the temp rezzers as rezzing stuff is a pretty expensive thing to do and, in theory, more likely to impact the entire sim. Are they re-rezzing stuff once a minute?

Sometimes. You can do a support request and ask them to look at the region or you can do a live chat thing and ask them to come by. I've had some very good and some very bad responses to trying this - it's sortofa crap shoot on which Linden answers...

In no way saying bad things about hippotech, but, over the past couple weeks I have seem major issues with the rental boxes, I dont know if its a probelm with SL processing the scripts, or if thers issues with the website hippotech is communicating with, but on average Im finding hipporents to be running about .45 ms per unit, compound that problem with the fact that usually there are more than 10 hipprents out at any time and we are loooking at 4.5 ms or more of script lag.

A class 4 sim starts to run bad at about 8-10 ms script lag, class 5 seem to process scripts better of course, but will still get laggy at about 6-10 ms

On my sims anything that runs .5 ms or more is returned to the owner, I hear that recompiling the scripts with mono will make the scripts perform beter. I imagine that recompiling scripts is a top priority for the creators of hippotech products
