How do I make a clickable link here? I see some people have done them, but when I follow the instructions it doesn't make a clickable link, it just shows exactly the code I typed in. Like http://karlherber.wordpress.com or http://karlherber.wordpress.com. I have the vB code option turned on, and it makes no difference whether the "Automatically parse links in text" box is checked or not. What am I missing here? How come some people can do clicky links, I can see them in other posts, and I can't?

Not sure why some people can and others cant. I can't but I have seen others be able to with the same method I use, so I'm not sure what happens.

I normally use the url tags, but some people use the img tags, which makes it clickable....the problem with this is that sometimes using the img tags create an image not found error rather than the link.

check the stickies at the top of this forum for one about greasemonkey for firefox

the forums are broken, so therefore the links do not work unless you use that work around

read your post a few times, not really sure what you are asking
a link should automatically parse to a clickable link just by typing in the url

otherwise the [ url] url here [/url] tag will work (without the spaces)

testing.... i believe you have to use image tags for that although they don't show good on every browser. so like this:

with X so you can see (delete the X's):

To those advising Gresemonkey - well I read the sticky that I was pointed to but I don't understand a word of it. I do use firefox but the limit of my technical ability is point-and-click so I'm going to need a step by step guide to hopw to get greasemonkey and how to use it in the forums once I've got it. Baby steps help, please?

Or would it be easier to just cave in and use IE when I'm on the forums?

Go here to get Greasemonkey:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/748

Then go here:

http://home.comcast.net/~mailerdaemon/bbcodeintext.user.js

And it should ask you if you want to install the script.

Say yes, and done!

ETA:: That second link is safe. It's the last one linked to on Strife's post. It's way down at the bottom, so kinda evil to find and understand that that's what's needed, so I just posted it here rather than point you back to that thread.

1. use [ img ] and [ /img ] around your URL
2. if the URL doesn't have a question mark in it, add one to the end
3. http://success!

Go here and click the 'Add to Firefox' button:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/748

Quit Firefox and restart it to finish install.

Go here and click the 'Install This Script' button on the right:

http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/9651

Click install when the appropriate window comes up. The button may be grayed out for a few seconds, but it'll become active after that.

That's it.

Edit: lol, I'm way slow tonight!

The Greasemonkey script makes all the BBCode work though, not just URLs. You also don't have to bother with adding any tags to the URLs...just paste them in and they autoformat.

this worked pretty well for me, but i found if you paste the url in and move the cursor away from it, it will auto format for url. also if you save it and then go back to edit it, it will be autoformatted

Of course the great majority of forum visitors don't have the greasemonkey scripts that re-enable BBCode. The way to trick this forum into showing clickable links to non-greasemonkey users is to use the IMG tag and make sure there's an ? in the URL. If there isn't you can just add one onto the end. For example, the below link you probably won't see a link at all...

But here you should see an url because I tagged a ? onto the end of SecondLife.com:
