Custom Dressmakers - Recommendations

I've been asked to manage a small project that amongst other things will require the creation of a couple (1 male, 1 female) of historically accurate sets of clothes in a Victorian style. Underwear and outerwear.

One of the (many) things I've never done in SL is making clothes, so can someone recommend a clothing maker who could do this?

We will pay a reasonable amount for the right product, but would need full permissions, for distributing the items after the event (they would become freebies).

Hi Beady, I'm not sure who could do this for you, I am sure there are people here who will be able to tell you though. Maybe you could have a look through the classifieds forum for someone offering custom creation? or post in the help wanted here. /118/1.html

I'm sure someone will have recommendations though :)

You also might consider checking the new search feature to see if you can find any Victorian items that are already free. Most creators are going to charge you a good bit to do something like this considering that most Victorian items are very detailed. Might want to check all of the business in a box places too.

Hi Fel!

/me waves to Felycitie

Caledon has a bunch of Victorian stuff. It's a collection of Victorian-era sims. Just run a search on Caledon and wander around there. I seem to remember a shop called "Silver Rose" but don't quote me on that.

Thanks for the suggestions, but this has to be custom built, we wish to re-create specific items from a museum, so general freebies, however good won't do for us.

I'll keep looking.

My first thought was Caledon, just a pity that it's a bit laggy, but I agree its a great place.

Hullo Beady,

I think I can throw a brick from my front stoop in Caledon and hit about four or five dressmakers who would be able to help you. Not that I would, mind you, as most of said hypothetical targets are friends of mine and are undeserving of noggin beaning. (Also for the record, I'm not plugging myself here. I need to get caught up on commissions before I take on more).

I don't know when you last visited Caledon, but I haven't had much lag difficulty there recently (of course, I also stopped using my laptop with its nonsupported graphics card :P). Most of the sims are Class 5, which helps considerably.

I would recommend a stroll through Caledon Victoria City, as well as the hubs of Caledon Eyre, Regency and the downtown Penzance area. Do feel free to say hullo to the local populace, very few of them bite, outside of the Moors (our Bram Stokeresque area).

Other Victorian sims to look at include Antiquity, Steelhead and New Babbage.

Otenth Paderborn runs the Victorian Shopkeepers group, you might IM him and ask him to make inquiries.

Wrong forum. Try the product wanted forums.

There a number of dress making scripts which may help if you plan on doing it yourself.

Thanks for those suggestions, I'll try them out and do some more digging in Caledon.

I didn't know there was a specific forum for requesting things, this is the only one I ever visit.
