I just read another thread where another "depositor" in "The Bank" (formerly "The Linden Bank" came to the realization that it wasn't a bank at all and the owner(s) ran off with all the funds. How will IDV help reduce player fraud? Or are "banks" in SL actually prohibited "games of chance" where the payout expectation is zero? Since IDV is about keeping SL safe "together" is it unreasonable to assume that it will address this fraud for the commonweal?

No, in my opinion it will not, the only thing that will stop people from getting ripped off is the people themselves.

I think LL should use that message screen to warn people of this. The message you see when youre logging into SL, I think the current message is about how "SL Literally rocks! Check the live concert listing" yada yada. Id rather be informed about "Sl banks" and how you should not put money into them. To me and you its common sense, but we all know not everyone understands this and innocent people are getting ripped off.

We are talking about age-verification atm.... nothing more. So no, I don't think it will help a bit.
Even if LL would push through to full identity verification I am afraid it will not that much. We are talking about relative small amounts of money (and no, I don't say that this makes it less important) and the "quilty ones" can be anywhere on this world.
Morwen.

When IDV is in place you will have four main choices of which avatar type you want to gift you money to 1. An anonymous adult verified as an adult 2. An anonymous adult not verified as an adult 3. An anonymous minor verified as an adult 4. An anonymous minor not verified as an adult
You will have no way of knowing which type you are dealing with. You can reduce the odds by meeting the avatar in a Restricted parcel. You are then down to the two options (1) or (3).
It appears that the adults have a bad track record in the banking business, so you might like to see if minors who lie and forge are any more honest. Engage the avatar in conversation. Offer them toys and sweets. Discuss politics and business. Guess.
This may appear confusing but please accept LL's assurance that IDV creates trust.

Considering how easy it sounds like it is to verify as someone else ..
This obviously wont help people from being scammed.
It also makes it more likely someone who never HEARD of Second Life will end up getting sued

Hmmm... If they can ban the word "casino"... how hard could it be to ban the word "bank"? I think "bank", "banc", and "banque" should about do it.

From: someone Oh, is there a post office as well in SL? No, but to repeat an old joke or scam (I was never sure which): I'm collecting donations for the SL subway project.
