Hey everyone. About a week or so ago a friend of mines computer crashed (I think) while she was logging into Second Life. Since then, she hasn't been able to log in and all her friends still see her as online when she isn't. Linden support have been contacted but have been unable to do anything and the sim owner says that it will only come right when it next has to do a restart. We located her ava in-world today but it is only partly rezzed with a grey body but the hair fully showing. We could also walk right through it rather than pushing so its just a ghost! Other things are that it shows up as a yellow dot on minimap and most things such as reading the profile can be done when right clicking on it. Has this happened to anyone else and how did it get sorted in the end? Any suggestions appreciated

I was ghosted a couple of weeks ago and only a sim restart fixed it. Luckily I was at home and the estate owners were really quick to respond to my request for a restart. Paying me money and IM'ing from various people did not help, but I have heard it does in some cases. My ghost was solid, just hovering. Hope your friend gets sorted soon

I have a script that I have been wanting to test but if her avie is ghosted it most likely will not work.

if sending the ghost an IM fails, the sim will need to be restarted. if your ghost is on an estate, an estate manager can restart the sim. if the ghost is on mainland, only ll can restart the sim, and somebody will need to submit a ticket for a sim restart.

If you can right click on her and get a pie menu, then if you know anyone with an orbit tool, you can do that and it almost always fixes the problem.
Mysti tool has an orbit in it if anyone you know has one of those.

Other things are that it shows up as a yellow dot on minimap and most things such as reading the profile can be done when right clicking on it. Has this happened to anyone else and how did it get sorted in the end? Any suggestions appreciated LONG ANSWER: (short answer is below!) I was ghosted last May and was unable to log in for days, in spite of submitting a ticket to Second Life Support. My avatar had ghosted when I'd crashed crossing over a sim border on a private bunch of islands. Unfortunately I had to wait for a sim restart by the region owner. I have ghosted since on the mainland, and again, it was a region restart that fixed the problem. Another time, one of my alts was unable to log in, but as I remembered where she was when she crashed, I was able to log in on my main account and locate her ghost. I tried the orbitting, and sending money theory, and none of it worked. At that time, I submitted a support ticket to LL and they gave me a step by step procedure to work through, which was: . Get the Second Life log in screen up . Click on the Edit tab at the top of the screen . From the drop down menu you get preferences . From there, click on network and clear group cache. . Next step was to ctrl and quit the log in screen and wait for 15 minutes. . Then I was told to get the Second Life log in screen up again. . Change the log in point . Enter name, password, click to log in... and they said all should be OK. BUT.... it wasn't. It made no difference whatsoever, and I still couldn't log in on that account. I logged back in on my main account, returned to the ghost, took a screenshot, submitted another support ticket to LL. And they had to do a region restart. SHORT ANSWER: So the short answer to the problem is, if your friend is stuck as a ghost on a privately owned sim, please persuade the sim owner to do a sim restart. This is the only surefire way the ghosted avatar will be released.

I see that http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Stuck_logging_in suggests deleting the files in your temporary and cache directories, presumably because this forces your viewer to query the inventory server when you attempt to log in, thus making it realise you're currently logged out. No idea if this works or not, but it can't do any harm.

Step 1: Contact support
Step 2: Jump through 2500 hoops which don't work but keep you occupied long enough for that support person to finish his shift and go home.
Step 3: Contact support, then give up on support, shaking your head in disgust.
Step 4: Come to forums and ask for advice
Step 5: Contact either the estate owner or LL if it is Linden owned land and ask for a sim restart. (If you have to contact LL regarding the restart, make sure you start the conversation with I NEED A SIM RESTART or you might find yourself back at step 2).

From: alana1275 Riddler The ghost is now free - owner must have restarted the sim. Actually, it was probably Linden Lab. They have been doing rolling restarts as part of the upgrade to server version 1.32.1
