Just wondering about your experience with commercial designs for your shops & businesses..... I spent a little bit of time last night looking for a suitable building to re-do my shop on my own land, in an expanded version......and I was just really disappointed with most of what I found. The thing that irks me is that while 'shopping' in general I've seen some really great commercial buildings.....unique, classy and functional. Yet finding something on a par for my own shop is looking like it's going to be quite the project. So.....have you guys found an acceptional builder that you use....or have you thrown up your hands in frustration and built your own??? I don't have the time I used to have to invest in this stuff....but I still really want to make the right impression with my shop....but if I see one more cookie cutter mall design or boxy shop I think I'm gonna have to stay up until the wee hours to create what I want.

well…
In defense of builders, whether they deserve it or not, I am quite a good creator in second life, I like to think I do good art installations at least. So once I played with creating a building and made what I thought was a good modern contemporary design, put it on Xstreet for a minimal price, less than 200, for what it is and no one has bother with it at all, I have found that really awful 'nearly like real life builds' L$2000 builds + are more successful sellers. So I realise that there is some skill in creating the right build that the majority of SLers like, and I just don't have it.
I'll revisit this again one day, hopefully something that's new and interesting that will catch someone eye.

I have bought two buildings- one is m workshop and is actually a freebie - it's billd as an underwater temple- I just like the colors and feel of it- Much too small for a shop though. The other is my shop - I really like it because it has rooms I have been able to use to keep my merchandise grouped. Only thing I don't like is the damn thing isn't mod- I would prefer to b able to expand a couple rooms - When it bugs me enuf I will just copy the parts i like and rebuild it 'building' on the idea - Feel free to pop in, take a look and if u like it and find the maker- I bought it on XStreet but don't know right now who makes it.

I think Barnesworth Anubis has some dandy prefabs, as does Flopsy McArdle (Smersh) -- but Im kinda obsessive so I make my own.

I wish I had the time to BE more obsessive.....I made a few cool textures earlier but after finishing a tri-fold brochure design for work....I don't think I can stare at prims and focus enough to build. I saw some cool structures at Prestige......but I have this idea in my head of a build that sits off the island, over the water and sort of blends with the scenery.....with a cool walkway connecting it to the island. Architecture is one of those things that I love love love to look at and in my head I can conceptualize some cool stuff......but I just can't ever seem to transfer those ideas into designs of my own. Actually...I could draw what I want better then I could manipulate prims into it in the 3d world.

From: Milla Alexandre I could draw what I want better then I could manipulate prims into it in the 3d world. I'm the complete opposite, I can't draw to save toffee but in Second Life I can, it's the most awesome thing for someone like me who is artistically challenged.

Milla, I was also frustrated when I searched for a building before opening my shop. I found some good ones that weren't in a suitable style, and others that weren't the size I needed. So I built mine, which took much longer than I anticipated. I'm glad I didn't compromise by getting a building that wasn't quite what I was looking for. (I just purchased the adjacent parcel, so now I'm expanding the building.)
I never tried to sell it, but I've had people ask if it was for sale and I sold copies to them. When I have the time (like that's gonna happen), I'll put it on the market.
