I would try the scripting sub-forum. They may even have exactly what you need in the free script library.

It would be great if whatever pop-up you use, remembers the avatar key and the choice they made (agree/disagree/etc) so that the pop-up does not ask them every time they appear - unless it is required.
It can be a minor annoyance to have to shoo-away a blue box that appears every time you go into a place. _____________________

...in particular if it is telling you the oh-so-important and unique rules that "griefers will not be tolerated".

This is more of a "products wanted" question.
Scripting tips is generally for people who want help writing scripts. I agree with Bri: popups that happen every time annoy me. They make me less interested in returning. But, a script by itself generally can't hold enough names -- that takes external memory, which means it's not trivial or super cheap. |

/me also suggests having it check llSameGroup and not bothering people who TP with the group set.

So that dumb box that pops up in in various places is not just some script running that notices when someone TPs in? Scripting sounded logical for that. Yes, it is just a script. I think the point was that if you want somebody to write a script for you, products wanted is the place to be. If you want to write the script youself but need a hand/paw with the tough bits, scripting tips is the place to be. _____________________

Set a welcome mat or invisible prim at the parcel's landing point.
Have it scripted to give a welcome message. Those can contain brief instructions/rules. *Set it to give the message to each avatar ONLY ONCE per visit* You can also get a group join script, and things like that. Join Script Collectors in SL, it's free, and they are very helpful. If there's a free script to be had someone will have it and probably give it to you - just open the group IM and ask them. _____________________

/me also suggests having it check llSameGroup and not bothering people who TP with the group set. Something a script can do easily enough is to remember the last N people and not ask them again, so frequent visitors wouldn't be bothered. N is probably somewhere around 1000, and could be considerably higher with a few tricks (e.g., converting key into two integers and saving them rather than avatar names). Hmm, maybe I should just write it as a freebie, and hope those annoying places replace theirs! Of course, it would remember you only if you answered "I agree". |

Well, as it happens, I was at a favorite club and the owner was grumbling about her notecard giver, and that tipped me over the edge. I also had more important work I wanted to avoid. So, I did it. I'll continue this discussion in scripting tips, and will probably post code. Even if I don't post code, I'll distribute it freely.
See Let me know if you want one. Since testing is still in progress, don't hold your breath. But, I have more work to avoid. ![]() |
