Compiling questions on adult content for LL

I've tried to pull out the various questions emerging in the other (very long threads) which we require answers from LL on, as they are being lost in the ongoing discussion (as are the occasional answers from LL). Please restrict posts to this thread to any questions I've missed, and use the other adult content threads for discussions.

What is meant by "adult"?

Some Linden's have suggested that only locations intended for "public" use with "adult" content need to move to the adult continent. Is this the case? If so what is meant by "public"?

Given that the definitions for adult (and public) are subjective (and even different Lindens seem to have different opinions on what they mean - Jack Linden has talked of only extreme mature content being adult, whilst Blondin Linden has talked of overtly sexual or violent content on public areas as being adult), how will this be policed? More importantly, what appeal procedures will there be?

Given that LL does not have definitions for adult (and public) content, and different Lindens have expressed differing views on what is adult - how was the 2-4% estimate reached?

If the transfer of mature land for adult land is time limited, how long will the period be? What will the procedure be after this time period, if someone has what they believe to be appropriate content for mature land (either not believing their activity to be either adult or public), but LL rules that it is in fact adult?

Will mature land be swapped for land on the adult content of the same shape as well as area?

In cases, where someone owns multiple plots on a sim, will this be swapped for plots in the same relative position on an adult sim?

Will swapped plots have the same terrain features (height and textures)?

Will swapped plots have similar surroundings (roads, water, ocean whether plot is on the edge of a sim or mid sim etc)?

If a number of neighbouring land owners wish to remain neighbours after the swap will this be accomodated?

Will it be expected that the swap happens instantaneously or will it be possible to temporarily own both the existing mature land and the new swapped adult land (this would be essential when moving a mall with lots of renters)? If so, will the land owner be expected to pay tier on both regions during the overlap?

Will LL assist in moving complex builds (e.g. large numbers of prims, prims over a large area, multiple permissions of objects, multiple ownership of objects) which can not simply be taken and re-dropped?

Will LL automatically redirect existing landmarks and picks to the new location? If not, how will the resultant loss of search ranking be compensated?

It has been suggested that picks to adult locations may not be permitted in profiles since profiles are intended to be PG. Could LL clarify the situation? If adult picks are not permitted, this will impact search ranking for adult places. How will LL address this?

Currently land and region controls do not allow you to limit access to adult verified accounts if you wish to use group or individual access controls - will this be rectified?

There seems to be some confusion on the impact on private estates, whether individual islands can be adult restricted or whether it has to be the whole estate? Could you clarify? For instance, would it be possible to have an adult restricted island attached to a mature or PG island on a private estate? If islands need to be moved as a result of the new rules, will the usual movement fees be waived.

If LL provides mechanisms for moving complex builds or redirecting landmarks and picks for mainland moves, will similar help be given to those on private estates who need to move due to the new rules?

It has been suggested that LL will apply some form of automated filtering on search results to identify adult results by keywords. How will LL deal with identfied false positives and false negatives.

PIOF can be determined from scripts, however adult verified (via aristotle) cannot be - what are LL's plans here?

It has been suggested that profiles merely indicate whether an avatar is adult, without indicating whether this is via PIOF or aristotle. What is LL's view on this? If LL supports this idea, Will this be reflected in LSL functions?

Are there any plans to limit group membership to adult verified accounts?

A major complaint is that a failed log on may result in a avatar expecting to be in a mature area (and hence maybe dressed in a mature manner or naked) being relocated to a random PG area. Some have even been ARed or suspended when for appearing naked in a PG area when they expected to be logging onto their (mature) home location or (mature) last logged on location. What plans have LL for resolving this?

Another major complaint is the amount of inappropriate content and behaviour at PG welcome areas. As this will be new accounts first impressions on SL, dealing with this should surely be a top priority. What are LL's plans to deal with this?

If a private estate owner decides he will not turn the whole of his island adult, what options are open to an adult content provider? Will they get help from LL with a move to the adult continent?

The purpose of the proposal is to protect people from content they do not wish to see. Given that many will have PIOF for purposes other that verifying as adult. Those purchasing islands or land for business and educational purposes will be PIOF but may have no interest in adult content. Will it be possible for these people to "unverify" or otherwise indicate that they wish to be protected from accidentally entering adult areas?

It still appears that many people in world are still unaware of the proposed changes (not least of all because the blog headlines are no longer listed in the logon page). What plans (such as adding it to the message of the day) do LL have for advertising these change more widely? On a side note, given that important changes are still posted to the blogs, are there any plans to display these within the viewer again?

A number of business have surveyed their staff and customers and determined that the majority (typically >60%) are neither PIOF or age verified. Moreover, there seems to be no trust in Aristotle (due to the personal data mining activities that other parts of that company perform, and also due to the fact they imply they can verify against data that they have no legal access to etc.), and very little trust in LL (not least due to past data loses and tales of incorrect billing), so many people will not verify by either means. There are also some who apparently cannot use either means to verify. This could result in a major impact on the adult industries in SL, and hence to the overall SL economy. The evidence is somewhat anecdotal, however, this is a plausible scenario. What plans have LL to evaluate what the true impact will be? The lack of trust in LL should be of a major concern to LL - again the evidence is anecdotal, but are there plans to evaluate how serious this may be in case action is needed to improve peoples trust in SL?

If this is not about a teen/adult grid merge, why the renewed interest in having people age verify?

How is age verification via payment info going to give land owners peace of mind that visitors are RL adults when credit card companies say that their cards may not be used to verify age?

Adult places tend to be very high traffic - won't moving them all to a much smaller land mass destroy the performance of these regions?

How will complex builds be handled? For example, my 1/2-sim home is a neighborhood with 4 different owners, 5-6 different groups and about 15 different parcels. We will want to move together. Some of the build components are owned by people who have since left SL. Will Linden assist in this or do we need to start over and rebuild from scratch?

Why not create an adult continent AND a PG/G continent? Wouldn't that do a far better job of meeting the stated goal of giving residents more choices?

How was the 2-4% statistic established? Was Linden land (oceans, roads, welcome areas, help islands, etc) included in the calculation? Was land at auction included? How could you come up with such a number before having defined what 'adult' means?

It has been suggested that LL create two new continents - one entirely PG for those wishing for an entirely "PG" experience, and one entirely mature for those wishing for an entirely "mature" experience, leaving the existing continents for those wishing a "mixed" experience. People could then choose to move to these continents rather than be required to move. What are LL's view on this proposal?

It has been suggested that objects could be visually muted. Experimental code which did this on a parcel basis was developed by an open source developer. The idea of tagging objects as mature and visually muting on an object basis was suggested at the beginning of the age verification beta. What are LL's view on these proposals?

Some clubs/stores which receive a large number of visitors have carefully chosen their location so that they are on quiet sims to avoid overloading the sim. If 2 or more such clubs are swapped into the same sim on the adult continent, it will have a detrimental effect on both those clubs and other residents of the sim. What plans do LL have to avoid this?

What steps will LL take to prevent the buying of land purely for reselling as seen in Nautilus and Bay City? What steps will LL take to prevent PG and non-explicit mature parcels from existing in the adult continent?

Are there any clear, uncontroversial, unanimous agreed, examples of activities which are "mature" but not "adult"?

I understand there will be some sort of filtering on search terms.
Will there be a published list of words and terms that can not be used in land descriptions if we want to stay below the Adult threshold? Will unverified accounts be able to see such a list?
This actually would be quite useful in helping to describe where the line is drawn. If for example "heavy petting" was deemed an adult term (unlikely ,i know) then we would know the threshold was low.

Formal Call For Change Of Representative
03-29-2009 08:00
I would like to formally call for a change of representation on the Linden Staff for the person in charge of hearing Resident suggestions and representing Linden Policy.

Blondin Linden has clearly demonstrated that he is NOT listening, even to himself.

No matter what is said, Blondin does NOT concede any validity to any point that does not agree with the predetermined goals and methodology.

That is not representation or discussion. It is stonewalling.

I want to talk to a different representative for the company.

Escalate to tier 2 customer support, please. Tier 1 has failed.

For Filters and Land discriptions i was wondering and hoping that there is a way to filter out certain words that would be adult. by not having adult checked.
Say in your classified ad or land discription you had a world that was labled adult ( for marketing purposes). Say I am an animation merchant, and I had Gangbang poses, Clearly not mature but not for public use. A way to filter out just that one word from land discriptions and Classified adds would be a huge help, people with Adult checked can see it, but People with out adult checked can not, Enabling me the mechant the abiltiy to advertise my adult content and mature content in one land diiscription, while filtering out adult wording for those that do not wish to see it. Seeing as I believe LL is not trying to restict the sale of adult products but trying to restrict there public use on Mainland, the need to adverise these things to a wide market is needed, So the abilty to be able to just filter parts of a Land Discription would be a tool that would enable mechants to be able to retain there full advertising potental to all users.

A serious question for the Lindens:

What will you do about adult merchants who do not OWN land, but rather rent space in the hundreds of malls on mature mainland in SL? You'll be forcing them to move, but to what? From twenty 10M x 10M kiosks around the grid, each with a 50 prim limit, to a single parcel of their own with 1,000 prims allocation? What if they aren't a Premium member? Who will be their landlord in Pornotopia? Will LL set up a mall for them? Will LL at least coordinate contacts between these dispossessed merchants and those mall owners who agree to move to Pornotopia?

I could well have been in that position, had I opted to continue developing a line of collars, cuffs, restraints and cages that I was making last year. I ceased development on those Adult products when you first insisted on the abortive and never-worked-right adult parcel flagging and Aristotle verification. But what if I hadn't? What if that was me, with twenty kiosks in malls, selling my Adult stuff with JEVN vendors, and living quietly on a rented 4096 M2 parcel in a private Mature sim, with no store where my home was? It may surprise you, but there are a LOT of content Creators who don't HAVE a "main store", who create their products on the floor of their living room in their rented apartment, and sell them in malls across the grid. What will you do about them, when they can no longer sell their merchandise on Mature mainland sims?
