What does it mean when you search for an account you know exists and it comes up with "None found"?

You can disable your name from being found in search.

That the person opted out of showing the profile in search (possible since a few viewer versions back). Or a typo. ;)

from search." well done SL.

yes, but you can still click on their name and their profile pops up.

Search "All." Some profiles come up there but not in People.

If a profile doesn't show up in the people tab, they have probably deleted or have been suspended.

Well here's why I ask. A friend of mine told me his account had been suspended for a week. This was like a month ago, and he still hasn't been able to get back on, and now I can't find his account by searching for it.

And that was my point. They chose to stay hidden, and SL tells you that and. "..here's their profile btw!" :p

I believe there is usually a suspension in effect while a case is being investigated; a more severe penalty might be deemed appropriate once the facts are known. I don't know if this is at all what's going on with your friend, though.

He said he was suspended for "self spawning objects" or some such thing. Is that something that usually comes with a severe penalty?

Yes. Those kinds of objects have been used to crash sims by overloading the physics system, typically.

As far as I know, the only 'search' you can hide your profile from is the ALL search which is based on the web based profiles and you have to agree for your profile to be listed on the web.

It was never possible to hide your profile from the People tab search. Unless this has changed quite recently (and I don't think it has) this is still the case.
