All I want is to buy some Linden money so I can make purchase in Second life. But so far I found it impossible. I added $25 to my Linden Account from PayPal, and it was immediately transferred. Now I wanted to buy $10 worth of Linden money, but I can't. There's no Transfer option, only Buy, and it has PayPal as payment option. I don't want to take more money out of my PayPal account I just want to transfer my existing money. I'm stuck Even if I proceed with buying L$ I get error: We are unable to complete your request. • This transaction would exceed your daily billing limit by US$9.88. You have already billed US$25.00 of your daily billing limit US$25.00. • Couldn't reserve order. • The system encountered an error while processing your order, please try again. I tried $5 and get similar error... I called tech support, and they were totally useless. They told me I should be able to do it. I even opened a support ticket, just to receive e-mail that I can't do that due to non-premium account... It feels like I was robbed

This happens, what billing support should do for you is raise your billing limit to the next level, however if you are very new, they like you have been in SL for a while at least, tomorrow you should be able to transfer the dollars into L$

To transfer US$ into L$ go to your account page; click 'Linden Dollar Exchange' click the BIG button that says 'Buy L$' and try buying 10 US$ worth of L$'s there, no more than that though.

by putting the 25 in your account you basically freeze your account for a couple days (I know it is rather weird the way it works) so in a couple days when you level raises you will be able to buy the lindens
At least that is how I remember it working for me

Actually, wait 3 days. I think that's the time limit. It's a rolling 3 day limit, so just wait until your 3 days is up, then you should be able to buy L$ freely. In the meantime, you can set up an account over at SL Exchange and buy/sell L$ there. The one thing you should never do is buy/sell L$ on Ebay. People have done it with no problems, but there have been issues with stolen credit cards being used to buy L$, and it becomes an issue with Linden Lab.

I'm assuming this was your first attempt at buying L$...after your initial limits increase, you will actually be able to purchase Lindens with your USD balance, but it doesn't allow that for your first transaction. I don't know why. Your limits should increase on the third day after your first transaction, although I couldn't give you a time of day as to when they do that. The trading limits page refers to it as day 2, but that's because the first day you make a purchase is considered day 0. Day 0 - first purchase day (first day) Day 1 - next day (second day) Day 2 - first limit increase (third day) Day 8 - second limit increase (ninth day) Day 28 - third limit increase (twenty-ninth day) Also, bear in mind that the limits are cumulative for the month. If you spend 10USD on day 0, you won't be able to get more until day 2, and then only 90USD will be available, not 100. Similarly, if you spend that 90 USD by day 5, there will be no more until day 8 and the upper limit will be 200USD, not 300, because you already spent a total of 100USD as of day 5. Anyway, the specific limits are here and your current level will be highlighted blue. http://www.secondlife.com/currency/describe-limits.phpAlso, don't use the 'Increase Credit' link in the future if all you want to do is buy L$...it's an unnecessary step. You can just go straight to the 'Buy L$' link and there will be no 25USD minimum in place.

Just run into this same issue
07-06-2008 17:08
Okay, I just ran into this same issue and I'm a bit annoyed - If I "deposit" US$25 into my account, why can't I then get the daily new account limit of US$10 in L$? I understand the want of the LLs to prevent short term L$ speculation by new accounts, but making us wait 3 days to spend US$10? How is my depositing my real cash into the account considered a measurable transaction in this regard? I've not done anything with it - other than providing LLs 3 days of interest on my money before I can do anything with it - sub-Pennies, I'm sure, but when you multiply my sub-pennies over the millions of US$ the exchange claims is being swapped around, it adds up (Richard Pryor in Superman ring a bell)?
As I dig deeper and deeper into the workings of SL, I'm beginning to recognize why there are so many complaining members...

Another thought on this
07-06-2008 17:16
I've now read the forums and the "fine" print of the transactions page a few more times through and I have one item for clarification based on all that I have read and what has happened:
If instead of depositing a US$25 credit, I'd just gone straight in and purchased US$10 worth of L$ and applied the remainder of the US$25 minimum to my account, would I have gotten my L$'s today?

If you'd gone straight to 'Buy L$,' you would have been able to purchase 10USD worth and have it today, but you couldn't have put the remaining 15USD on your account as a credit, due to the 25USD minimum for that. If you'd decided to pay for a monthly membership or land tier, that would have been deducted from the remaining 15USD of your limit, but that remainder is otherwise untouchable until the limits increase in a few days.

I've asked LL for further clarification
07-07-2008 09:57
Since it appears that I'm not the first (or last ), I've submitted a request for an improvement in the documentation of how that first L$ purchase works. Now, instead of being able to upload the new prim maps I've created and fixing a few issues with some of the freebie clothes and hair for my av, I'm stuck waiting for 3 days... Ah well, such is (second) life.
