Can anyone help me?
I'm on version 1.18(5).3
I just installed Windlight but I still have to try it.

Let me start by saying my old machine which is over 7 years old, had better performance for rezzing objects, which would rez almost immediately, but the graphics took a little longer to display, but was still fast, but the PC froze up alot. Heres what the old machine is:
HP Pavilion 7865
Athlon AMD 1.2ghz
512ram
Window XP Pro
6800GT 256bm/256bit AGP video
160Gb IDE HD

My new machine is good at first, but then starts freezing after a short while and has been getting worse. It takes 100 times longer to rez things than the old PC...I see SL bare land a lot of the time before things start to rez, never saw that at all on my old PC. Graphics are blurry alot of the time and take forever to sharpen. Once things rez, movement with my AVi and camera are very smooth and quick at first, but as time goes, it gets worse, then I start freezing up. I looked at the processes with CRTL/ALT /DEL to see what was happening. When I first start SL it's below 400mb memory usage, but quickly starts climbing to 1.5Gb usage and higher. It's the only thing that uses rediculous memory.
Here's my new machine:
Built up
AM2 M2N32 SLI Deluxe 3ghz
2gb OCZ pc2 6400 rev 2 Platinum Ram
Windows XP Pro
8800GTS 512mb/256bit...on the G92 chip
160Gg IDE HD from the old machine...new DH too come
Antec 900 Case with three 120mm fans and one 200mm fan

I have played with ingame settings going from low detail to high detail and the same for the video card settings..it does't make a difference that I can see.

Did you reformat and reinstall windows?

If not, you could probably benefit from it.

Did you install any updates to your network hardware/software for your old machine, but not your new one?

Sorry for such a late reply..I coulnd't find my post.

My new PC is hardly a month old. The old hard drive was reformatted and partioned and install XP on one side and storage on the other. I installed all the current motherboard drivers and there is only one video driver out so far and all current network files for the motherboard.

I have been using Windlight and have the same problem...no better, no worse.

I don't know if it's my PC or just SL.
It just keeps getting worse. Does anyone else have this problem?

If your new PC has Vista on it, you'll need to close some things running in the background. Most specially DWM. Vista is a resource hog and I hate it. DWM will come up twice..it's persistant. Kill it dead! And it's Adobe friend too!

I am running Window XP Pro, check my stats list :)

The problem is getting worse. After running SL for about 15 minutes it starts to freeze up for several minutes then when it unfreezes. This repeats until I get a red network light. The freezing usually happens when I move the camera around. I check the performance hitting crtl/alt del, the Page File usage is way up to 1Gb-1.5Gb or more. The CPU has gone as high as 50%. I have to relog to keep going.

CPU should be pretty much pegged at 50% all the time with that machine.

You /could/ have a cooling problem, the 8800GTS gets pretty warm (not as hot as a GTX but).

If you are in a really texture laden area then SL just CHOKES :( Last night it was using about 1.5gig on my machine and feeezing constantly as I was an a massively box vendor packed mall :( THis is something that normally I never experience, but certain places in SL can be really bad.

It /may/ be that having more video ram actually makes the problem worse, but SL has a TERRIBLE problem hadnling the caching of textures STILL. And when it decides to do a goant 500 mneg dump as it seems to do when you are well over a gig of usage, it just stops dead till it's done.

Also you may have an antivirus program trying to av check your SL cache, set your SL cache as a folder that is excepted from being virus checked by your program if you have one.

I have the temperature monitoring progam and I occasionally check it while SL has been running. The temp is usually between 55°F - 60°F, unless I have the heat turned up in the room, but has never gone over 63°F. I put my hand over the card exhaust and it is never really that warm. I don't think heating is a problem with all the fans this case has.

It happens no matter where I am...in a large mall with lots of people or in a sandbox working on my things.

I have noticed that after a while of not responding..if it comes back it has dumped memory but lately I have had to end SL. I have limited the cache to 200mb as per information from a group notice.

I will check on my AV..I use AVG Free version. I don't know if I can exempt a folder.

If i understand what you are saying you are booting to your old hard drive. You should get at least your ethernet driver and and put on CD, buy a new hard drive install windows on it, put on the network driver, then get all other drivers including chipset drivers, reinstall programs, then slave or add your old drive. tell the bios to boot to just new drive, get all your personal data from old drive and put that where you need it. Then you can wipe out the old drive and use as a back up.

If that doesn't solve it then you have a hardware defect or conflict. Is your power supply enough watts to handle the components?

the Page File usage is way up to 1Gb-1.5Gb or more

Do you have the page file set to "system managed size"?

edit:
- right-click My Computer and do Properties
- click the Advanced tab
- in the Performance section, click the Settings button
- click the Advanced tab in the window that pops up
- in the Virtual Memory section, click the Change button

The next popup window shows your page file settings. If you're seeing 1.5GB and more on a system that only has 512mb of RAM, you might have your page file settings set weird. That or have the most evil setting ever enabled, System Managed Size.

I think ya mean Celcius. ;)

If only the 8800's ran that temp in Farenheit.
