Land Useage Question

I owned a 3504m2 parcel of mainland that I just subdivided 512m2 off of it leaving a 2992m2 parcel. I sold the 512m2 parcel to a friend for $1 because I needed to free up 512m2 of tier to be able to afford to purchase a new lot I found.

The problem is that the land I sold does not appear to be coming off of my tier. When I go to buy the new land it tells me that my monthly land use fees will increase to $75/mo and that I currently hold 3504m2 of land. I don't understand this since I only own 2992m2 of land and the new land I am buying should increase my tier to $40/mo, not $75/mo. Does anyone know what I have to do to fix this? I'm concerned that the land I found is going to sell before I can get Linden Labs to respond to a support ticket.

Thank you

May be a lag problem with databases

The SL transactions database is running 2.5 hours behind. if the other databases are also behind, how much land SL thinks you have may not be up to date. Try and check the web
page for your account and the My Land in the game, and see if both match up to how much
land you think you have.

1. Is your land group owned? If it is, then you need to reduce the amount of tier contributed to the group. LL looks at land owned only for the purposes of checking against how much tier you have purchased and are using. Donated tier is considered used, and it doesn't matter how much land you hold. Check all your groups for tier contributions.

2. In checking my math, 2992 of land is still in the 4096 tier. To go into the 2048 tier, you can own no more than 2560m2 of land. You shouldn't have been paying $40 anyway, as 4096 is $25.00 per month.

US$75.00/month 16,384 1/4 Region
US$40.00/month 8,192 1/8 Region
US$25.00/month 4,096 1/16 Region
US$15.00/month 2,048 1/32 Region
US$8.00/month 1,024 1/64 Region
US$5.00/month 512 1/128 Region
US$0/month 0 0/128 Region

You need to go the Land Fees page in your account (https://secure-web5.secondlife.com/account/landfees.php) and ensure that your tier matches what you intend to pay for.

Thanks for your replies, I think Danielle is right on about this being some sort of database delay.

The land is not group owned and I have been paying $25/mo in tier for my land. The additional land I want to purchase should raise me to the $40/mo level after taking into consideration the 512m2 lot I sold earlier tonight to a friend. The problem is that since that 512m2 lot I sold has not been deducted from my land holdings I am being told by the land buying system that purchasing my new land will raise my tier to $75/mo month instead of $40. Hopefully this problem resolves itself soon.

Thanks again for your responses.

You also need to bear in mind that you will be charged for PEAK land usage in your billing cycle. Check the date in your account that tier is due. You may not be able to get the lower tier until this date has passed.

I make more sense when I haven't had too much wine with dinner :o

But if the 512 was sold, she should be able to buy 512 more now without an increase in tier.

Something is wrong. People at the 75 USD tier own between a quarter sim and a half sim. How big is this parcel you're buying?

It's now been about 10 hours since I sold the 512m2 plot of land and my land holdings still appear on the website as 3504m2 instead of 2992m2 which is what I actually own. The lot I want to purchase is approx 5600m2 which would take me to the top of the $40/mo tier when added to the 2992m2 of land I currently own but $75/mo tier if added to the 3504m2 that LindenLabs says I still own (even though I clearly don't). So basically when I go to buy the new land it tells me I'm going to end up in the $75 tier range instead of the $40 tier range I should be in. I know I could just purchase the land anyway and fight the LindenLabs billing dept. but that seems like it might be more of a pain than it's worth.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

An alternate to tiering up this month is to create a premium alt and pay the 9.95 to get the free 512 for one month. It's cheaper than going from 40 to 75, and your alt can sell the land to you once your tier has gone down.

But, yeah, at that size, you should be in the 25 range anyway.

I was able to get a Linden in a live chat. A region restart updated my land holdings on the web site so now it appear as 2992m2 owned as it should. Unfortunately it was too late, my dream lot was snapped up by someone about 30 minutes before the problem was fixed. Now, I don't even have enough prims left on my remaining land to put my house back, days of searching for a new lot are lost and I will almost certainly never find a lot to match the one that I had found. It amazes me that I continue to send my hard earned money to this company that can't even figure out how to get their software to work in the most basic ways. How difficult is it to subtract 512 from 3504? Too hard for Linden Lab's technological masterpiece called SecondLife. It is beyond frustrating. Sorry, I'm to the point of just venting here now. I do thank everyone that responded to my post.

/me sighs, I suppose this is my fault for not being willing to pay an extra $35 tier for one month.

Gabby now has his land. :)

A quick word of advice to anyone who finds themselves in a similar situation, where they really want a parcel, but can't get it right away for some reason: IM/notecard the seller, explain the situation, and ask if they'd be willing to set the land for sale only to you for a day or two while the situation is resolved. Not everyone will be willing to do it, but it doesn't hurt to ask. :)

Thanks Ava, I was amazed that you went out of your way for me like you did, especially considering you have never even met me. SL needs more people like you. :)
