Backing up your Second Life

Following from the unfortunate stories here of two people who have lost a lot of their inventory when they lost their Premium status, I thought it might be useful to have a thread discussing how we should back up our Second Lives against the event of a catastrophe, whether it's of our own making, through the malice of another resident or by falling foul of the LL billing system.

My suggestions (not all of which I've done yet) are:

Give folders containing all your most valued copy/transfer items to an alt which has a basic account.

Make a notecard with details of your favourite no transfer items and give that to the alt.

Give some of your spare L$ to the alt for safe keeping.

If you value your shape, note down all your slider values on a piece of paper and keep it safe. This also comes in useful if you wish to re-create your SL look in OpenSim.

One thing I'm not certain about, TOS-wise, is whether it's better to use a different e-mail address for the safety alt. On the face of it, that seems a good idea.

Any other suggestions?

One made in the the first thread was the best. Drop your main account to basic, and make an alt or alts to manage your land and whatever other premium business you need.

This is what I'll be doing when my premium membership comes up for renewal.

Aside from the expense and trouble of replacing no transfer items, some of the NT items I have can't be replaced.

Assuming LL is still doing this and the two recent posts claiming it aren't elaborate trolls.
